All year, I look forward to Easter. I love the Easter egg hunts and the family dinner, but one of my favorite things about Easter is the selection of yummy treats! Easter is the best time of year for anyone with a sweet tooth, and each year I have fun trying out a new treat for my family to enjoy.
That said, I really do enjoy the egg hunt and spending time with family, so I don’t like making anything overly complicated. I love making recipes that are delicious, cute, Easter-themed, and most importantly- simple.
It doesn’t get much easier than making Rice Krispies® Treats! The traditional recipe for Rice Krispies® Treats is a tried and true favorite, but I thought it could stand to be a little more festive. My kids are really into “surprise egg” videos online, so I thought I’d give them a surprise of my own with these Easter-egg shaped Surprise Inside Rice Krispies® Treats!
Ingredients:
– 4 tablespoons butter
– 5 cups miniature marshmallows
– 6 cups Rice Krispies® cereal
– 36 small candies of choice
{You’ll also need 12 plastic Easter eggs}
Directions:
1. Clean inside of Easter eggs and coat with cooking spray. It is important to do this first!
2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
3. Add marshmallows in and stir well. Remove from heat when completely melted.
4. Add Rice Krispies® cereal. Stir well and make sure to coat evenly with marshmallow mixture.
5. Working quickly, place a small amount of Rice Krispies® Treat mixture into half of an egg. Firmly work the mixture until it is a thin coating that covers the entire inside of the egg. Make sure to leave a hollow spot in the middle!
6. Repeat with each egg half. When done, remove each mixture from molds and place onto wax paper or foil.
7. Place 3 small candies in each of the bigger halves of the eggs, and gently press the two halves of the egg together. The easiest way I found to do this was to kind of “smoosh” them together, then kind of pinch the mixture together in the middle to join the two halves. Make sure your eggs are one solid piece before placing back on wax paper or foil to rest.
8. Store in an airtight container if necessary.
Before I was even done making the Surprise Inside Rice Krispies® Treats, my boys joined me in the kitchen to try to sneak a taste. Instead, they helped me put candies into the molds, which they thought was a lot of fun. Rice Krispies® cereal has been bringing families together in the kitchen for over 80 years, and it’s not hard to see why. There is so much you can do with it using simple ingredients- perfect for getting the kids involved! Of course, it helps that it’s absolutely delicious, too.
