Once all the presents are opened and we’ve eaten too many cookies to count, we start to smell it- Christmas dinner! Growing up we always had cereal for dinner, but a tradition in my husband’s family is to have a real Christmas dinner. While I love my cereal, I definitely don’t mind having basically a second Thanksgiving, and even though it’s a few days away I’m already drooling over the thought of green bean casserole!
While we always put a lot of effort into the menu for Christmas dinner, the drinks are usually kind of an afterthought. We tend to just grab a soda from the fridge or a glass of water, but this year I thought it’d be nice if we tried something else. I recently learned how to make my own grenadine, so I thought that would make an interesting base, and I added one of my favorite beverages to top it off!
Sparkling Pomberries
Ingredients:
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp lemon juice
DASANI Sparkling Water- Berry
Cherries for garnish
Directions:
1. Heat pomegranate juice over medium heat for about five minutes. Do not overboil- it’s ready when you start getting a few bubbles here and there.
2. Remove from heat and add sugar, stirring until dissolved. This may take a few minutes, so keep going! You’ll know when it’s done.
3. Add lemon juice and stir in well.
4. Add mixture to ice cube trays and let freeze overnight or for at least two hours.
5. When you’re ready to make the beverage, fill a glass with the grenadine ice cubes.
6. Fill the glass with Berry flavored DASANI Sparkling Water.
7. Garnish with cherries and enjoy!
{The ice cube mixture makes enough for a few drinks, but it’s really easy to double or triple if you have a large crowd!}
I used DASANI Sparkling Water in the recipe because it’s a great way to cut calories, stay hydrated, and get a lot of flavor! The Berry DASANI Sparkling went really well with the homemade grenadine, but I think the Lemon DASANI Sparkling would be good in this as well.
DASANI Sparkling comes in four flavors {Lime, Berry, Lemon, and Black Cherry} and each one has zero calories, zero artificial colors, and is caffeine-free and unsweetened, making it the perfect mixer for all kinds of drinks! They come in a 12 pack of 12 oz. cans and you can find them at your local Walmart.
