My kids have always been very social- and they come by it honestly. Our schedules are typically packed with playdates with friends, fun activities, and lots of exploration.

When everything shut down in March, we of course had to switch it up a bit. Instead of park playdates, we kept to our family. We went and rode bikes and drove our little motorized car in a nearby empty parking lot, and went on lots of walks around the park. To socialize, Shane played video games and chatted with his friends online, and Zac started video chatting with his friends on a regular basis.

As the weather heated up, we couldn’t really go outside unless we were swimming. We started to miss that fresh air and a view that wasn’t the four walls of our house. Video chats became less frequent as everyone’s summer schedules changed a bit and friends weren’t available as much.
But now? School is back in session, the weather is starting to cool off, and we are READY to get back to the one thing we actually liked about those early days of quarantine- hanging out in the fresh air and having fun! And things look a little different now than they did in March, so we’re exploring new possibilities as well!

We follow social distancing guidelines, so we aren’t quite ready for playgrounds or in-home playdates just yet. But that doesn’t mean we can’t see friends and have fun together. Recently, the kids and I met up with some friends for a socially distanced picnic!

I wanted to bring food for everyone but I knew we couldn’t share anything, so I went to the Walmart Neighborhood Market up the street and stopped at their deli counter for some Nathan’s Famous Hot & Ready Hot Dogs! These hot dogs come totally ready to eat and individually wrapped, so I placed them on our picnic table and let the kids grab one. They were a huge hit!

Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs are all original, premium hot dogs made with 100% premium beef. They contain no artificial flavors or colors and no by-products, so they’re a great choice! They’re perfect for on-the-go snacks or meals no matter where you’re headed!
Zac is a big fan of hot dogs already, and he declared these hot dogs to be his absolute favorite that he’s ever had. I have to agree, the hot dogs are SO good and they come in a nice, soft bun- and best of all, I don’t have to cook them! Shane was a huge fan too and was ready for seconds!

After our picnic, the kids rode their own bikes and scooters for a bit, which allowed them to play near each other {at a proper distance, of course} without having to touch any shared surfaces. My friend and I stayed well over six feet away and were able to catch up and discuss distance learning and Halloween and basically everything we’ve been needing to say for months but haven’t had other grown-ups around to listen {besides our husbands, who have already heard it all.}
It was so nice getting to see a friend and have the kids hang out in a totally safe way. And of course, it was great having a delicious meal to fuel that fun!

If you have any occasions coming up {might I suggest a socially distanced picnic?} where you need a great ready-to-eat meal, I highly recommend grabbing Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs! They are available at Walmart Neighborhood Market stores at the deli counter or at Walmart Supercenters at both the deli counter and the hot & ready case near checkout.
