It’s just under two months before the live-action remake of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast hits theaters and I’m so excited! As a kid and to this day I’ve always identified as a “Belle” more than any other Disney Princess and so far, everything that’s been announced about this version has made me cry happy tears.
If you love Beauty and the Beast as much as I do, grab a tissue and read on for everything we know so far about the movie! And be sure to bookmark this page as I’ll continue to update it whenever something new comes out!
About the movie:
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.
The Trailer
Now check out how it compares to the trailer for the original with this side by side video! I turned 3 just weeks before the original came out so I didn’t remember the original trailer, so seeing them side by side gave me chills!
The Beast:
The Beast {Prince Adam} is played by Dan Stevens. He actually played the role twice- you can read more about that here!
The Costumes:
We’ve gotten a few sneak peeks of the costumes- including the famous ball gown and the “peasant” outfit from the beginning. The ball gown definitely translates well into live-action and the beginning outfit was updated and looks great!
The Singing:
Of course, what’s Beauty and the Beast without all the amazing musical numbers? You can catch a couple of sneak peeks of the music in these videos:
The Soundtrack:
Ariana Grande and John Legend will be teaming up to sing the classic Oscar and Grammy-winning duet “Beauty and the Beast”. Celine Dion, who dueted with Peabo Bryson to sing that song in the 1991 version, will be singing an original song for this film, “How Does a Moment Last Forever?”
The score for the film will be provided by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards for the animated film. The original songs, written by Menken and Disney Legend Howard Ashman, will be there, and Menken has teamed up with three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice on several new songs as well.
Keep checking back for more- I’ll keep updating this post as I learn more about the film! In the meantime, you can follow Beauty & the Beast on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram now and be sure to check out the #BeOurGuest and #BeautyandtheBeast hashtags for more! Beauty & the Beast hits theaters March 17, 2017.
The Characters:
Get a sneak peek of the characters with these awesome posters! {Click here to view them larger.} Which one is your favorite? In addition to Emma Watson being the perfect Belle, I’m loving Sir Ian McKellen as Cogsworth and Emma Thimpson as Mrs. Potts! Oh and Josh Gad as Lefou is sure to be the perfect comedic relief to the incredibly handsome Luke Evans as the incredibly terrible Gaston. I can’t wait!
