Shane goes back to school on Monday and I have to say, it’s bittersweet. We have had a lot of fun together this summer and have been enjoying each other’s company, so I am going to miss him when he goes. That said, it’ll be good for him to get back into his routine, see his friends, and spend some time doing his favorite things like playing at recess and going to music and P.E. class.
One of the inevitable things that happens this time of year is the passing of germs. Usually Shane gets the sniffles within a few weeks of school starting, but it’s nothing that a box of tissues can’t handle. Something I don’t want to deal with? Lice!
So far, we’ve been lucky enough to not have to deal with lice, but there was a scare back in kindergarten when a few kids in his class got it. I somehow managed to never get it as a kid so one of my biggest fears has always been having him come from home school with lice and not knowing what to do about it. While I can’t control whether or not he gets lice, I can control whether I’m ready for it- and that’s exactly what I did!
This summer, I went through our medicine cabinet and tossed out things that were expired or unnecessary. Then, I stocked it back up with everything we need or want to have on hand- including a box of Nix® Ultra.
Nix® Ultra is a new over-the-counter remedy that kills not only lice, but super lice- and their eggs. It’s safe and non-toxic {well, for humans- maybe not so much for lice} and effective and contains two parts- a professional metal comb made specifically for lice and egg removal, and a solution of mineral oil and dimethicone to help make comb out easier. Super lice are becoming a huge problem in half of the country due to a genetic mutation that makes them resistant to pyrethroids, which is the active ingredient found in many over-the-counter lice treatments. Luckily, Nix® Ultra can get them out and get your kids lice-free in no time!
While I hope that we never have to use it, I know that realistically there’s always a good chance and I’d rather be prepared! This year, I’m staying even more prepared by using the first-ever lice tracker, which is a tool that school nurses and parents can use to report lice outbreaks and track infestations. The Nix® Lice Tracker uses data from lice product sales, along with the data from parents and school nurses, as well as Google Trends data to track lice outbreaks. You can easily track infestations in your area at the Nix® Lice Tracker website so that you can be prepared, too!
You can learn more about Nix® Ultra on their website, and be sure to bookmark the Nix® Lice Tracker! You can pick up Nix® Ultra over the counter at your favorite pharmacy, or use the store locator on their website to find it near you.
