Most chores aren’t fun- that’s why they’re chores. Some are definitely worse than others, though. While some may loathe doing the dishes and others may detest garbage duty, my least favorite chore has to be the laundry. My laundry room is downstairs despite every bedroom being upstairs, making it a pain just to get the laundry where it needs to go. Then there’s the sorting, the washing, the drying {twice, because my dryer doesn’t work right}, the folding, and the putting away. The worst part? Even when you get caught up, there will be more to do soon. At least, I assume that’s the case- I’ve never actually been caught up. {It doesn’t help that every two seconds I have to stop sorting laundry to check on one of the kids.}
While I can’t make your laundry disappear, I can share a way to help you save time on your laundry. Thanks to Purex, you can now completely skip the sorting! New Purex® No Sort™ for Colors laundry detergent helps you skip straight to the washing machine without a second thought. Not only does it save time- it saves money, too! I picked my detergent up at Walmart and paid just $3.97 for a bottle that is meant for 45 loads. That’s less than ten cents per load!
With Purex® No Sort™ laundry detergent, I can wash a red hand towel in the same load as the Lederhosen I made Shane for “Around the World” day at school. In fact, I can wash the Lederhosen themselves- I wasn’t quite sure how to before since they were both white and black. Now that I have detergent that allows me to mix colors, I don’t have to worry about bleeding dyes- no more ruining a whole load of whites because of one stray red sock!
Yes, I admit, I’ve totally turned a few of Justin’s t-shirts pink. I’ve also managed to turn Shane’s socks blue because of some particularly dark jeans that found their way into the load. While I know that won’t happen again with Purex® No Sort™ for Colors laundry detergent, I still don’t want to waste the clothes I’ve already “ruined”- so I decided to find new ways to use them!
1. Dry your hair. Drying your hair with a cotton t-shirt prevents frizz and breakage and is especially great for curly hair.
2. Clean your mirrors. I love using a t-shirt to clean glass like mirrors and windows. There are less streaks and no flaky particles get left behind.
3. Make sock puppets! Dyed your socks blue like I did? If you have babies, they’ll love to watch you use funky sock puppets, and if you have older kids, they can help make them & put on their own puppet show.
4. Make dog toys. Just braid strips of a t-shirt together, making sure to tie them off at each end. Get a great tutorial here.
5. Make some bibs. Whether your little one is teething or starting solids, you can use this tutorial to make some t-shirt bibs!
With the new Purex® No Sort™ for Colors detergent, the rules have changed! Purex is teaching laundry users that sorting is no longer an essential part of the laundry routine. On their website, you can learn about the breakthrough Anti-Color-Transfer Technology which traps loose dyes in the wash and does not let them settle onto other fabrics. Not only do you get to skip sorting- you can cut down on your loads because you won’t have to wash any that are half-full!
I do want to point out something that the back label says, which is, “Purex® No Sort™ detergent is packed with innovation, but it can’t perform miracles, so please follow these words of advice: wash strongly colored fabrics or new pieces of clothing, especially jeans, separately at least 5 times before doing a mixed color load with Purex® No Sort™ detergent.” That seems pretty reasonable to me- I’ve had jeans bleed dyes on me while I wore them after having washed them three times so I can definitely see how that might be a bit much for the detergent. So far I haven’t had any issues!
You can learn more about the Purex® No Sort™ for Colors laundry detergent on their website {or on Pinterest, YouTube, Twitter, or Facebook}.

I’ll have to try this because I’ve definitely turned things the wrong color on more than one occasion.

I can use Purex No Sort and not have my clothes sorted and they will not come out with different colors on them/ I love Purex clothes soap and this is the only I use. I have to try this out!

I need to get some of this for our daughter when she starts college in fall. I’m pretty sure she’s not going to bother sorting lights from darks…if she does laundry at all 😉
Shell says
Haha! Isn’t that what visits home are for? 😉

I love Purex. It is generally my first choice when I am shopping.
Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in Parenting says
My least favorite chore is mopping or cleaning the toilets. LOL

I have this on my shopping list for the next time I buy detergent. I have ruined so many clothes because of color bleeding.
Lynsey @MoscatoMom says
I can not imagine not sorting my laundry… that just seems impossible lol
Sara P. (@SensiblySara) says
We use old/ruined t-shirts as rags! I haven’t thought about using them to dry my hair, but that is SMART!
valmg @ Mom Knows It All says
I don’t mind doing laundry at all. I don’t like putting it away!

I’m a die-hard sorter . . . it would be a really hard habit to break simply because I have ruined so many items of clothing over the years. It’s like it’s ingrained within my DNA at this point. *lol* However, I never thought of drying my hair with t-shirt. I actually think that’s a great idea because towels are too heavy and pull on the hair.

I once washed my nephew’s first Christmas outfit with something accidentally (he had stained it while at our house and I was trying to help….) and ended up discoloring it. I felt so bad.
Shell says
Aww well now it’s extra special & has his Auntie’s love mixed in. 🙂
Chelle @ Oh Just Stop Already says
Definitely going to check this out. We have so much laundry I don’t even bother sorting anymore.

I actually have used t-shirts I ruined in the wash and made dog toys, never thought about using the socks for sock puppets. Great ideas.
Mellisa says
My husband is so bad about throwing all the clothes together without separating. I’ll have to look into this for him.
Tiff @ Babes and Kids says
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had something red bleed onto another fabric. Love this no sort idea!
Valerie Remy-Milora says
I love all your ideas for using “ruined” clothes. There great for outgrown clothes that aren’t quite good enough to pass on or give away
Jennifer @ Mom Spotted says
Do people still sort their clothing? The only sorting I do is by person :p
Anne says
I have a green blanket that bleeds badly, and it seems that every time I wash it, some white socks manage to slip into the washer with it. Well, they go in white, but they come out a lovely shade of light green. Unfortunately, they don’t do it in pairs! LOL
Anyway, I’m going to give this new Purex formulation a try. Thanks!
Shell says
Haha! My green-obsessed son would love that!
Marcie W. says
I am a big Purex fan thanks to it’s affordable price and different varieties (especially the dye free) but the idea of not sorting makes me so nervous. I would be willing to attempt it but would be on edge throughout the entire wash cycle!
Emily says
My least favorite chore is folding sheets. I’ll fold anything else, I don’t even mind scrubbing a toilet or two – but sheets. No! Oh, they are the worst.
Your tips are great! I love upcycling items! #client

I really like the ideas for ruined clothing. I had no idea that drying your hair with a cotton t-shirt prevents frizz and breakage. That’s awesome!
