I received one free month of art classes at Gymboree in exchange for this honest review. All opinions are my own.
Shane is very creative. He loves doing art projects and crafts, and can color an entire coloring book or draw a picture on every page of a notebook in one sitting. I love doing activities like that with him, but I’m not very creative. Sure, there are ideas on Pinterest, but by the time you go and get the supplies for one simple activity, you’re out $30, two hours, and all your energy. But Shane still likes to craft, so I thought this month we would try out Gymboree’s art classes!
Now, for full disclosure, I used to teach these classes, so I already knew they were awesome. {In fact, I decided to teach solely because of how awesome Gymboree classes are.} However, this was my first time attending as a parent and it was so much fun!
As soon as we got to class, there was play-doh set out for the kids to use to warm up. Shane isn’t that skilled with play dog yet but he had fun cutting it and asked me to make him some things, which made it fun since we were able to work on it together. Then we started our first project- for example, a porthole to view the ocean! It was fun for Shane and educational at the same time. The project included texture since we glued sand and tissue paper down, and it worked his fine motor skills when he placed stickers on. He also got to choose where to put a few sea shells and he had a lot of fun painting his paper plate! I love the crafts that Gymboree does because they are easy to replicate at home, which is great when your son wants to make ten more of something.
After the first project was done, we took a break to clean up. Then we sat back with a provided snack {graham crackers} and listened to a story! Each week, the story typically had to do with the theme of the week, and was a nice break between projects.
The second project is usually a little quicker and easier than the first, since there’s less time to let paint dry before taking it home. The activity is always still really fun and usually goes with the first activity. Many skills are worked on, and it’s a great opportunity for your little one to express their creativity!
Once it was time to go, we put away out smocks, grabbed our projects and headed out! Then of course we went straight home to put our projects on the fridge!
If you have a budding artist, be sure to find a Gymboree Play & Learn location near you and check out their art classes! If you’re a Las Vegas local, be sure to check out the locations on Cheyenne & in Henderson.
