One of the best things to happen during my lifetime thus far has been the digital camera. I remember when I was in jr. high & wanted to take pictures of my friends, it’d cost roughly $8 for a camera that could take 30 photos & another $10 minimum for processing- and most of them would turn out blurry. I still have several used disposable cameras sitting around here somewhere because it was such a hassle getting to the store to have my photos developed.
Now, we just point, shoot, and upload. Not only does that allow us to see our pictures immediately {and without paying for developing} but we can share them across the globe instantly! So between the reduced cost, the ease, the sharing ability & the instant gratification- you could say I love digital photography.
Me at age three
That said, I still love all of the photos & videos that I took pre-digitizing. I have albums & albums of photos of everything from my favorite stuffed animals when I was a kid to my friends and I hanging out in high school. &I have a ton of photos with family members that are no longer with us- for those who passed when I was very young, they are the only memories I have left of them.
And the videos- oh, man the videos. I have entire hour-long “episodes” of interviews that I conducted with myself in a horrible fake British accent- I was convinced that VH1’s “Before They Were Stars” would need the footage when I became Ginger Spice’s replacement. I also have the typical family memories though- birthdays & Christmases & my baby days.
My kindergarten bestfriend- who I’m still friends with- and me! {Circa 1995- as evidenced by the hair behind us.}
I cherish all of these memories & it would break my heart if anything happened to them. I’ve scanned a few photos but it takes forever, and I don’t even have a way to save the video. &Since the average lifespan of a VHS tape is about 10-25 years, and I’ll be 25 next year {which means some of those tapes will be, too}, I really want to start preserving those memories.
That’s why I’m so happy to announce that I’m a YesVideo ambassador! YesVideo is a convenient & affordable way to have your memories saved. They can digitize your photos & videos so that not only can you watch them on a DVD player {because I don’t know about you, but I don’t even have a VCR anymore} but you can even share them online on sites like Facebook! It’ll be so fun to share my high school photos with the friends in the photos online!
