Since we spent the whole weekend in San Diego for Shane’s birthday, we decided not to do a real party. Instead we just spent the day hanging out, playing with presents & eating cake. My mom & brother stopped by for a bit & Justin’s mom came by after work {his dad was out of town for work} too so that was fun.
{Please kindly ignore the mess! I didn’t want to waste his birthday cleaning.}
So on Friday night, when we were going to bed to get ready to wake up early on Saturday to travel, Shane asked if he was going to get to wear a birthday hat on his birthday. I hadn’t picked any up {we’ve never worn them for anyone else’s birthday or any of his previous ones} & we were headed out of town so I panicked a bit because I didn’t want to let him down. Luckily Daddy went out Monday morning to get some & saved the day!
Despite deciding to give him a vacation as a birthday present, I still had to get him a few things…
He’s becoming a pro at unwrapping! Maybe this Christmas it won’t take three hours to open presents!
I was pretty proud of this- I found wrapping paper that matches my site. I did that on accident, too- I just really love lime green & chevron. &Shane’s favorite color is green so I had to get it.
One thing he got was a set of the new Toy Story wheelies from Little People & I kept catching him all over the house laying down playing with them. He loves them! {Not a review}
Finally, it was time for cake!
He was so excited to blow out his candles!
I asked Shane what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday & asked if he wanted Thomas or Toy Story. His response? “Green.” You got it, dude. {It was vanilla with vanilla frosting & all kinds of green decorations clumsily added.}
We were all a bit tired from our vacation but we still had a great day & enjoyed it with our big three year old!

I love, love, love the green cake! Great job! (And of course you gotta have the extra candle) When Kali was turning 5 she did something similar and asked for a yellow birthday. I recall decorating my house with sunflowers. and daffodils, fake of course seeing as her b-day is in January. 🙂
Shell says
Aww that’s so cute 🙂

Those are great – and don’t you love how, as a blogger, you have to add a disclaimer for everything! I love that you made him a green cake and got him hats – birthdays are so special in our house, too…I love making the kids feel like they’re super special on their birthdays.
Shell says
Right?! I’m always afraid that people will think that I’m actually leaving a disclaimer off intentionally so I even put one when there’s none to be had. lol
Henrietta says
Sounds like the perfect birthday to me! I love your green cake and we do a candle to grow on as well!
