I love Mother Nature & one of my ongoing goals is to continue to “green” my life. While I’d love to go & do big things like start composting or using all homemade cleaners or something along those lines, I’m just not quite there yet. But one thing that I am adamant about is recycling!
I’m lucky enough that our state has a recycling program that picks up my cans, paper & glass from my curb every two weeks, so I don’t have to go to a recycling center. It’s very convenient & gives my family no excuse not to recycle. But it CAN be a pain storing all of the recycleables for the full two week period between pick-ups! We have a lot of paper clutter, and I drink a LOT of diet soda, so the tiny milk-crate-sized bins they give us simply don’t work. We installed a can crusher awhile ago to make the cans smaller so we could fit more, but I have a tendency to get hurt using it & it’s just not very convenient. It involves bringing each can outside to the garage and using the crusher, which I am not very good at & tend to get hurt using. So, usually I would just keep the empty cans by the sink until I couldn’t stand it anymore & bring the whole group of them outside to the bin {&leave the crushing to Justin}. See? Not a great solution.
We finally have something that IS a great solution, though! We have the new Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler, which has solved all of my recycling issues & has made it so much easier!
The 2-in-1 Recycler can be personalized for your needs. It has two separate containers that can be used either to sort your types of recyclables or to use as a recycling bin on top & a trash can on the bottom. The bottom section tilts out & holds a standard 8-gallon trash bag {with LinerLock bag management, to keep the bag from slipping}, so it can hold a lot. &Both sections have handles to make it easy to bring to wherever you need them!
&Get this- it is not only made of recyclable materials, but is also recyclable itself! Clearly, I’m impressed.
Again, the way you use the 2-in-1 Recycler is totally customizable, but we use the top section for paper & the bottom for cans. I can actually get 2 weeks’ worth of soda cans in there which is impressive, and it keeps the cans off of my counter since the Recycler is on the other side of my kitchen island, rather than outside in the garage. &Since you can use a garbage bag, I use one as a liner to catch any water or soda droplets left behind. I just reuse the bag until it gets grimy, and then replace it, rather than using a whole new one each week- that way, I have a clean Recycler and no unnecessarily wasted trash bags!
As for the top section- Having a bin just for paper has helped me keep piles off of my counter! I used to just make a pile of mail each week & go through it on the weekend {sometimes every other weekend, to be honest} but now I just take the entire stack of mail for the day over to the Recycler & put anything that can be recycled directly into the bin! Now if only the Recycler could help me file the rest of the papers…
We love our 2-in-1 Recycler & have been very happy with it. It matches our Rubbermaid trash can & so it doesn’t look out of place in our kitchen, and it is such a simple solution that has solved multiple problems! I can’t recommend it enough!
Buy it: You can buy it at Rubbermaid.com or at select retailers for $39.99

We just redid our laundry room and this would work perfectly for us. I really didn’t want 4 big huge bins taking up space I don’t have. This would streamline it and look much nicer.

I like the Bento boxes in paprika, and also the stackable recyclers for our garage.

I want the 13.2 QT slim cooler. This would work perfectly for wrestling tournaments so it would sit in the bleachers and I wouldn’t have to worry about it tumbling down. lol
