The Top 5 Big Moments for Every Wedding

In just over a week, I will finally be walking down the aisle to marry my high school sweetheart. This day has been a long time coming {we just had our 8 & a half year anniversary last week} so to say that I’ve put some thought into it is definitely an understatement. While I can’t predict how my particular wedding will go- including what great surprises may occur as well as what mishaps we may have- there are five BIG moments for every wedding that I have been playing in my mind for months:

Top 5 Wedding Moments Photo Frame

1. Having My Father Escort Me Down the Aisle: I realize that not everyone is lucky enough to have this moment, but I am grateful that my dad will be the one to give me away. I am quite the Daddy’s Girl & already know that the moment I see my Dad waiting for me, I am totally & completely going to lose it and start crying immediately.

2. The Ceremony: It amazes me that you can walk down an aisle single, and walk back up it as someone’s wife. I believe in the deep meaning of ceremonies {something I picked up during my sorority days} and hold certain symbolisms sacred in my heart. I look forward to repeating the words that my parents, and their parents, etc. said to each other on the first night of their married lives together. {As a bonus that isn’t typical to most weddings, I also can’t wait to see our son walk the rings to his Daddy!}

3. The First Dance: I can’t share what song we’ve selected just yet, because it took us months and we finally found the perfect one, so we’re keeping it a secret for right now from our guests {some of which read this blog}. That said, your First Dance is an opportunity to express yourselves, your relationship, and your love for each other in an awkward 2 & a half minute shuffle.

4. The Cake: At our wedding, this actually won’t be a big deal, but I know that typically thousands are spent on the cake so I felt it made the list. In our case, we will be using a cake façade {a pretty, but fake, cake} and will be serving sheet cake. That said, I’m still looking forward to some yummy chocolate cake.

5. The Honeymoon: While I’m very excited for the wedding, I am just as excited to connect with my then-husband after the wedding. Our love is the reason for this whole event, and I am so looking forward to just spending some quality time together celebrating our marriage. Our major honeymoon will be in June, but Justin & I will be taking a mini stay-cation for two nights so that we can calm down from the craziness of the wedding & we can just enjoy being married for a couple of days before real life sets back in.

We hired a videographer, and I love that most of these moments will also be captured on DVD for us to treasure forever. If you have old wedding videos {your own, or maybe even your Grandparents’!} be sure to look into having YesVideo transfer them to DVD. Film & video tape age quickly, but I’m sure if you preserve them, those videos will be treasured by generations to come.

4 Great iPhone Apps for Sharing & Preserving Memories

Cell phone today are amazing. I love that they allow me to capture memories that I otherwise may have forgotten, whether that’s in the form of a quick photo I was able to take because my phone was already in my pocket or whether it’s because of some of the amazing memory preserving apps on the market. Below is a quick list of some of my favorite apps for capturing, viewing, and sharing memories.

shutterfly app logoShutterfly: I love making photo books with Shutterfly- it’s like having a scrapbook but without the hours & hours it takes to make them. In fact, we just had one made to use as our guest book for the wedding! It’s even easier to order photo gifts {including photo books, calendars, mugs, prints & more} by using your iPhone- you can even use your Facebook & Instagram photos in addition to your Shutterfly & iPhone photos. {Price: Free. Download it here.}

baby book plus logoBaby Book Plus: While I admittingly haven’t used this app since I don’t actually have a baby, I so wish it would have been around when I did. I am like many other parents- I bought a baby book for Shane, but by the time I remembered to fill anything out I had already forgotten dates & information. Not only can you record these milestones as they occur, but you can also add photos to your memories and even keep track of vaccinations while you’re still at the doctor’s office. {Price: $2.99. Download it here.}

instagram app logoInstagram: I’m sure you already know what Instagram is, but it bares mention on this list. In addition to keeping up with the world in real-time, it’s a great way for friends & family to keep up on what’s going on with your kiddos, even when you forget to send them photos. {Like, ever. Sorry, guys.} It’s a great way to keep people updated either in real time or all-at-once if they only check it occasionally.{Price: Free. Download it here.}

yesvideo iphone app logoYesVideo: Last month, I shared my experience with YesVideo, when they digitized one of my home movies from when I was a kid. I loved it- it was easy & convenient, very affordable, and best of all, allowed me to view & share some great memories. YesVideo is now making it even easier to view & share those memories with the YesVideo iPhone app! With the new app, you can track the status of orders in progress, watch your transferred videos, and share your videos with friends & family- all right from your phone. {Price: Free. Download it here.}

So whether you’re trying to remember every detail of your new baby’s life or reminiscing on memories from your own childhood, there’s an app for that!

Reliving Childhood Memories with YesVideo! {Review}

With our wedding just over a month away, I’ve actually found myself reflecting a lot on my childhood. I think it’s a combination of writing out invitations to family members who live far away that I haven’t seen in a long time as well as the fact that soon I’ll be changing my last name &shedding the girl I once was to become the woman I now am. But as I sit & write out addresses, memories come flooding back in little snippets.

I wanted to see some of those family memories, so I asked my Dad to lend me some of our home movies. Unfortunately, they’re all on VHS we haven’t owned a VCR in years. So I knew it was about time we transferred our tapes to DVDs!

dads home movies

It was hard picking a movie at first- as you can see, my Dad has more than a few {and this is just some of them!}. Luckily, he knew which ones had which memories & he picked one that was from another major transition in my life- when I moved here to Vegas when I was six. It doesn’t have any Vegas footage, but it does have me saying goodbye to everything in Chicago, where I was born & raised until then.

I was really excited to see this tape since I was six & I actually have some memories from then, and I really wanted to see how accurate my memories were! So I took my tape to CVS to have them send it in to YesVideo. The form was only a couple of questions long, and I had several options. I could choose a specific theme {including wedding, baby, and more} or just leave it plain, which is what I opted to do. I also had the choice of a title & how many copies I wanted.

I was shocked at how cheap the transfer was- I literally expected it to be twice as much. For just over $35, they shipped my tape in, converted it to a DVD, sent me a link to view it all digitally & then sent me back two copies of the DVD along with the original tape. I can’t believe it was so cheap- if I would have known that, I would have brought way more movies! In fact, I actually plan to as soon as my Dad picks some more tapes.

After just a couple of weeks, I received a call from CVS that my media was back & ready to be picked up! I just went to the photo counter & picked it up like I would a roll of film {if this was 1998}. I couldn’t wait to get home & watch it!

yesvideo grandma

I have to admit, I may have teared up a few times. I got to see my Grandma, who moved from Chicago to Vegas just a month before we did, but passed away in August 2008. It was so amazing to hear her voice again. It also had my childhood dog Max on it, who had to be put up for adoption in 2001 when he bit my brother. It was one of the most heartbreaking experiences in my young life, and to see him again was so touching.

The video also had some fun things that I barely remember, like when I met Sandra Bullock {“While You Were Sleeping”, one of my favorite movies ever, was filmed two blocks from my house in Chicago} and an Easter morning when I was little. It even had clips of me playing with my first true best friend, Amanda, who I am still friends with to this day!

Each video includes 3 custom 60-second “music videos” that include highlights from the tape set to music. They also include chapters with a menu for easy scene selection!

If you have family movies that you have been wanting to watch, be sure to check out YesVideo! You can go to any of their retail partners, like CVS, and send in your media- or you can request an EasyShip Kit for $19.99 including shipping. In just a couple of weeks you’ll be watching {&sharing!} those memories!

What family memories have you been wanting to rewatch?

3 Ways YesVideo Can Help With Your Wedding

I’m in the middle of planning my wedding, &my “I do” to-do list is about a mile long. So whenever I find something that will make my life easier, even just a little bit, I jump right on it! So when I realized how helpful YesVideo could be for my wedding- both before and after- I knew I had to share it with anyone else planning a wedding out there.

YesVideo makes wedding planning easier! #yesmemory

1. Compile your childhood memories &make a DVD montage. Once your old memories are digitized by YesVideo, you will be sent an email saying your items are available online. Once you go online, you can create a montage using clips from your memories- a great touch for running in the background or even highlighting during the reception! You can combine memories of your childhood, your soon-to-be-spouse’s childhood, and even your relationship.

2. Collect & Combine. If you have several people recording or photographing your wedding, ask them all to borrow their footage to send it in to YesVideo. Not only will you be able to make a copy for yourself, but you can pick & choose what footage you want to use. Did your Great Great Aunt film your two year old cousin picking her nose for 2 minutes? You can totally skip that. But maybe your second-cousin-twice-removed got the perfect shot of a stolen kiss between you & your new husband. It could very well become your new favorite picture!

3. Use DVD’s as gifts. Once you’ve created the perfect DVD full of memories from your big day, you could do the same for the members of your bridal party. While most people may not need entire DVD’s of your family {especially if they aren’t family as well}, most bridesmaids would appreciate a DVD with photos & videos from their part in the ceremony. Shots of them walking down the aisle, helping with your dress, and dancing the night away will help keep the memory alive and show them how much you appreciated having them be part of your big day.

If you’re planning your wedding, let YesVideo make your life easier. You can get started with any of the above by visiting YesVideo’s website. Or if your wedding memories are on tape or another format, let YesVideo digitize the footage so that you’ll have it for decades to come.

If you’re already married, how did you save your wedding memories?

Psst.. don’t forget to check out my Wedding Memories in the Making board on Pinterest for more wedding planning ideas!

Top 12 Moments of 2012

Last year was such an amazing year. I recently took the time to look through some of the photos I took of our little family last year & in doing so I realized just how much we actually did! In the hopes of keeping this post from getting too ridiculously long, I’ve decided to just showcase one moment from each month of 2012.

January

Last January, Shane, his Nomi {Justin’s mom} & I went to see Disney On Ice: Toy Story 3. I wasn’t sure how he’d do {he was about 28 months old at the time} but he really surprised me by being completely captivated the whole time. He still talks about the show sometimes, a full year later.

February

In February, this photo happened. Shane & I are lucky enough to have an amazing group of friends that we’ve known since he was a tiny tot. We see them almost every week, so the fact that they were hanging out in the photo above isn’t the memorable part- it’s the whole holding hands thing. Totally cute. Also, I’m pretty sure each one of these kids has grown half a foot this year.

IMG_0762

In March, we took Shane to the theater for the first time when we went to see The Lorax. He did great & only got antsy toward the end, but quickly started paying attention again. He didn’t do as well the next month with Chimpanzee, despite his huge love of monkeys, but I think that was because it wasn’t animated. He did really good when we went to see Wreck-It Ralph at the drive-in in November, though!

April

In April, Shane got to take a ride on Thomas the Train. He only vaguely knew who Thomas was at that point, but after riding on him, Shane became totally obsessed with Thomas, who is still a major fixture in our lives.

May

In May, Shane had his very first flight when we all flew out to Nebraska on Justin’s birthday weekend to celebrate his grandma’s {Justin’s grandma/Shane’s great-grandma} 90th birthday!

June

June was a month full of park visits & dirty faces, frozen yogurt &swimming. Nothing huge happened this month, although it was the first full month that I was home with Shane again full-time after quitting my job in mid-May.

July

In July, my sister & her kids came to visit.While they were here, Shane went to Disneyland for the very first time! It’s a 4 hour drive from here, but it’s a lot closer than my sister usually is in Wisconsin.

August

I have a ton of pictures that I could have used from August that don’t include Shane squinting his eyes, including photos of him unwrapping his birthday gifts. But this photo was taken the day before his birthday, just minutes before Justin proposed to me, right on that beach.

September

In September, we learned that Shane is terrified of Chuck E Cheese when we tried to take him to a birthday party there. He climbed up me to my head &screamed like crazy until I got him outside, and then I tried to erase the pain a tiny bit with some froyo.

October

In October, we went to the pumpkin patch where I took this adorable photo of my boys!

November

In November, our Elf on the Shelf brought Shane a special North Pole Breakfast. Our elf got Shane like 7 different types of cookies &donuts & cinnamon rolls, but Shane put nothing but fudge covered Oreos on his plate. {Don’t worry, he only ate like 2 of them.}

excited

December of course brought Christmas along with it, and with that came so many amazing memories. This picture shows his excitement over his gifts, but there was so much more behind it. From his newfound Christmas carol obsession to driving through Glittering Lights to making cookies, this really was a magical holiday season for us.

2012 was a year to remember, and 2013 is already set to beat it with our upcoming wedding {&subsequent honeymoon}!

If you have special moments that you want to remember, YesVideo can help. Whether it’s old memories from your own childhood or recent photos or video, YesVideo can help you make a DVD full of memories that will last a lifetime.

What was your favorite memory of 2012?
