Saving Time in the Kitchen with my Maytag Appliances #MaytagMoms

I am all about shortcuts. Whether it’s a more efficient cleaning product that cuts down on my elbow grease or an ingredient that allows me to skip steps of a recipe, I’m constantly looking for ways to make life easier. It’s not that I’m lazy, I just have so much to do & not much time to do it. Plus, I have a three year old who wants pretty near constant attention & gets upset if I spend too long doing something.

&Maytag gets that. They have built shortcuts into all of their products that allow me to spend less time in the kitchen & more time with my son. I have to say that upgrading my appliances has been one of the biggest and most immediate ways that I’ve managed to save time & effort in the kitchen.

Maytag Fridge Water autopour

My Maytag Oven saves me time in the kitchen with it’s quick-heating burners. It only takes a few short minutes for my water to boil, and the power of those burners has cut cooking time way down. Even my fridge has shortcuts- the auto-dispense feature on my fridge allows me to push a button & then walk away, only to return to a full glass of clean, purified water. I often use that time to finish making whatever meal we’re about to eat or to straighten up the counter a little. It only takes a few seconds, but I still love that it allows me to multitask.

Maytag dishwasher

My dishwasher saves me SO much time. I have always been the type to casually rinse off dishes but not actually scrub them, since that’s the whole point of having a dishwasher. With my old one, that sometimes meant running a dish through & then finding gunk left over on a plate or a bowl, which meant then I had to scrub it & then re-run it in the dishwasher. That’s no longer the case. I still just casually rinse {if I even do that} and so far I haven’t had any dishes come out with anything left on them. At all. Thanks to the Jet Clean Plus Steam feature, I’m able to just put them in & forget them. The dishwasher also has an adjustable rack, which means bigger dishes that I used to have to hand wash due to their size now fit in perfectly. &Check out the glass lid above- there are no water spots- a huge deal since every single dish I had used to have them.

heating up leftovers in a maytag microwave sensor heat

The REAL star of the show as far as shortcuts go is the microwave. After all, what is a microwave but a giant shortcut? But this one is especially efficient. First of all, the WideGlide tray inside moves back & forth instead of rotating in a circle. Why is this important? Because it means you can microwave an entire casserole dish inside. That’s huge. It also has a shelf inside, which allows you to heat two things at once, cutting down on time spent in the kitchen. Another great set-it-and-forget-it feature is the sensor reheat feature. If you are warming up leftovers, you can set the microwave to sensor &it will sense exactly how much to microwave your food. It adjusts the power levels & time for you, and all you have to do is push start. I have NO idea how this works, but so far my food has come out the perfect temperature every single time. I showed my entire process in the photo above- I literally just take the leftovers out of the fridge, pop them into the microwave, and hit one button. Then I can go about making the rest of lunch while I wait!

I have been so happy with my Maytag appliances. Some of them took a little bit of getting used to just because I was so used to my old stuff {I had to relearn how to load the dishwasher, but I can fit more in now, and the commands for the microwave are different but there are more of them} but I’m finally fully adjusted. Every appliance has it’s own way of making my life easier & I can really depend on all of them, which is definitely more than I can say for my old set. It’s crazy to see how far appliances have come since I was a kid- and I can’t wait to see what Maytag thinks of next!

Dependable Cooking & Baking from Maytag! #MaytagMoms

Since moving in with Justin, I’ve made dinner almost every night. I love cooking & I feel like it’s a great way to show my family that I care about them, so it’s really important to me to cook regularly.

With my old range, this could sometimes be very frustrating. Like I said, I’m a good cook, but there’s only so much you can do with poor tools. Just like you can’t expect to cut through steak with a butterknife, you can’t expect a perfect meal without a great range. I consistently had issues with the stovetop not heating the entire pan’s worth of food, which resulted in some pieces of food getting overcooked while I tried to get the others to cook all the way. I had to stand over the pan, constantly stirring the ingredients to make sure they all hit the spots that had heat going to them & even then, it sometimes didn’t work out.

maytag oven

Since getting my 5.8 cu. ft. capacity gas range with EvenAir Convection range from Maytag as part of the #MaytagMoms program, I haven’t had that problem once. Not only does the entire intended area heat evenly, but the pans rest comfortably on the grates {with my old stovetop, some of my heavier pans would tip over if they weren’t placed just right on the burners}.

maytag stove 5 burners

I also love that the stovetop has five burners- I’d never seen this before! While I haven’t yet used them all at the same time, it’s nice to know I have the option! The main power burner, a 17,000 BTU Speed Heat™ burner, can boil water so fast it’s crazy! {Which is good because I’ve been known to completely forget to boil water until 5 minutes before I’m planning on eating. This has not worked out well in the past.}

maytag oven capacity

The oven is just as spectacular as the stovetop- it’s huge and can fit three racks. One of the racks is recessed so that it can fit larger items {like Thanksgiving turkey} without making you take out another rack or sacrificing any room. The oven heats very evenly & I can even bake two or three sheets of cookies at the same time- and have them actually come out the same! With my old oven, I had to do one at a time. I had the room {just barely} for two, but the sheet on top would be done while the sheet underneath would still be gooey dough, so it wasn’t worth the constant checking. Now that I can bake more efficiently, I’ve been doing it more often- something my whole family is happy about!

maytag stovetop

Cleaning the range is so much easier than my old one. Those cast iron grates over the stovetop lift right off very easily and the stovetop is easy to just wipe down. The oven has a self-cleaning feature, which I tried once in my old oven & never used again because it was so hot and made the house uncomfortable. This oven, however, uses AquaLift Self-Clean technology, which uses water & a much, much lower temperature to clean debris away. I haven’t used it yet because my oven has stayed clean so far, but I love that I’ll be able to use it even in the sweltering summers!

Maytag-Burners

I have only two notes about things that I’d like to be different about the range. First, the main power burner is right in the front, and like I said, it’s pretty powerful. That means that I have to be very careful that Shane’s little hands don’t find their way near the stovetop when it’s in use- and it also means that my microwave handle, which is directly above the power burner, can get pretty hot if the power burner is on for awhile. It’s inconvenient, but to me it’s worth it to have the super powerful burner. I just wish maybe it was in the back so it was safer all around.

Also, when I bake at 450 or above, the oven gets hot to the touch on the outside. Any temperature below this & it doesn’t even get warm, but at that temperature it gets really hot, to the point where I worry about Shane burning himself on it. I rarely cook or bake at that temperate though so the few times that I do, I just take extra care to make sure that Shane is nowhere near the range. &The handle never gets hot, so as long as I don’t touch the front, I’m fine, too.

Maytag Ice2O® French Door Refrigerator Review

I have a three year old who seems to have a growth spurt every other week, and since I’m trying to lose weight for my upcoming wedding, I’ve been eating small meals throughout the day and lots of fruit & veggies. Put those two things together & you can see that our fridge gets a lot of use. So you could say that we really depend on our fridge!

Maytag Ice2O French Door Refrigerator with Easy Access Refrigerator Drawer

Between Shane’s snacks, my produce and the bounty of Thanksgiving leftovers we got last week, our new Maytag Ice2O® French Door Refrigerator was really put the test of how much it could hold. I was amazed- there is so.much.food. in this fridge and yet not only does it all fit, but I have easy access to everything. With my old fridge, I had to dig around behind stuff or take ten things out to get to the one thing in the back. With this fridge, pretty much everything is in the front at all times & it’s so easy to get to what you need!

Maytag Fridge Water Dispenser

The Water Dispenser: I love having purified water whenever I need it. I realize that most new fridges have this, but I have never had one with it {that worked} so this is a big deal for me! The ice maker is quiet & I love that I can have it dispense a predetermined amount of water by itself. If I don’t use that option, it still counts how much water it’s dispensing so I can easily keep track of how much I’m drinking {which is super important for weight loss!}. &I have to admit- I love the blue lighting behind the pads. It’s the little things.

Fridge contents

The Fridge: I love that it holds so much & I love the visibility I have with it. I can see where anything is at any time. That’s the icemaker on the top left- it takes up quite a bit of room in the fridge but honestly, that hasn’t been an issue in our home.

Maytag Ice2O French Door Refrigerator doors

What has been an issue is the way the doors are designed because of the icemaker. The one on the right has containers for condiments, but I can only fit a few in each one, so I’d love it if the left side had the same containers. However, the left door’s space is mostly going to waste since the cut outs are very specific in size & I haven’t had anything that fits in there yet. Meanwhile, we have several condiments that we use less frequently just hanging out in the back of the fridge. That said, while it’s not ideal, it’s not a huge deal, either.

I also love the little shelves throughout the fridge- they are perfect for keeping small things from getting forgotten and for keeping healthier foods right in front so that I remember to eat them!

Easy Access Drawer Maytag

The Easy Access Drawer: While this drawer is meant to hold snacks for kids, Shane isn’t quite to the age where he gets his own snacks so I’m using it as my own produce drawer right now. I love this though because just like the shelves in the fridge, it keeps the fruits & veggies front & center and, well, easy-access- that way I’m not reaching for something bad just because it’s easier. It also reminds me at a glance what produce we have left so that I can make sure to eat or serve it before it goes bad. I have really cut down on my food waste since switching to this fridge, primarily because of this drawer!

Freezer Bins Maytag Fridge

The Freezer: We eat a lot of frozen food {veggies, ice cream, Shane’s waffles, which are the only thing he will eat for breakfast} so as you can see, our freezer is packed. {&Worse yet, we have a freestanding freezer outside, too.} But we do have plenty of room in this freezer to keep all of the foods that we use often and even some additional ones. &Since there are deep bins for bulkier items as well as pull-out drawers for loose or smaller items, nothing is getting lost or forgotten in here, either. {Which could not be said for our old freezer- you don’t want to know how old some of the stuff I found in there was when we cleaned it out!}

Having the Maytag Ice2O® French Door Refrigerator has seriously changed the way we eat- we’re drinking more water since it’s more convenient & we’ve been snacking on fruit way more. Plus, it’s a fridge I can depend on- it doesn’t freeze my vegetables like my old one did, and the water doesn’t come out black. I am seriously in love with this fridge!

Appliances I Can Depend On From Maytag

A few months ago, I announced that I was a #MaytagMoms Kitchen Ambassador & showed you my horrible old kitchen appliances. Well last month, my shiny new appliances came & I feel like I have a whole new kitchen!

Previously, my kitchen was stuck in the 90’s, with barely functioning white appliances. Now that I have new, modern, stainless steel ones, I feel like my kitchen is actually in this century! And most importantly, I can actually depend on my appliances now.

For over 100 years, Maytag has been a dependable name in appliances. With the holidays quickly approaching, I needed something that I could rely on, instead of my old junk. I was sick of having to use a filter on my faucet since the water was undrinkable from my old fridge. The microwave seemed to have two settings- I could choose between my food being frozen in the middle or scalding and burnt. It’s so nice finally having appliances that I know will do what they’re made to do!

&They have some really cool features. Pretty much every feature amazes me since the appliances I had before now were so run down, but there are a few that I haven’t seen anywhere else:

Maytag Fridge Water Dispenser

1. The water dispenser can either count how many ounces of water you’re using, or you can set it to the amount you want & it will automatically dispense it for you. It makes it easier when using water as an ingredient in cooking, and it makes it easier for me to keep track of how much water I’m drinking every day! I’ve actually been drinking a lot more water lately because of this feature.

Maytag Microwave Presets

2. The microwave has a lot of presets! I loved having a popcorn setting on my old microwave because I thought that was pretty high tech. This one has a ridiculous amount of presets in both the “Kid Menu” & the “Snack Menu”. The kid menu includes presets for common kid foods like chicken nuggets, while the snack menu has things like nachos. I haven’t played around with these too much yet since I’ve been trying to stay away from too many snacks, but it’s fun to have the option & it’ll be great for entertaining, when I will be serving snacks.

Maytag Burners

3. The stove has five burners! This may or may not be more common than I realize, but personally I’ve never seen this. Even if it’s common- it’s pretty awesome. Usually I’m just cooking for three people, so I don’t need five burners every single night, but I’ve already found myself using all five on a couple of occasions & with upcoming Holiday cooking, this will be a huge time saver.

Maytag Dishwasher Controls

4. The dishwasher’s controls are on the top of the door, hiding them from sight. This is another feature that may be common, but that I’ve never seen. If you check out my old dishwasher in the “Before” post, you’ll see just how much the controls stood out on the old one. They even had their own panel! But the new dishwasher’s settings are completely hidden from view unless the dishwasher is open. Plus, the dishwasher has way more settings than any I’ve owned before, including Jet Clean & Steam Sanitize.

Maytag Microwave Shelf

5. The microwave has a shelf in it so that you can cook two things at one time! It’s so funny because I’ve used this feature a lot, but I still forget I have it. Just last night, I found myself warming up Justin’s food, and then my own. I was halfway through mine when I realized I could have done them both at the same time!

I’m so impressed with my new appliances, and I haven’t even put them to the real test yet: Thanksgiving!

I’m a #MaytagMoms Dependable Kitchen Ambassador!

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen my exciting announcement last week, but for those who didn’t- I’m going to be a #MaytagMoms Dependable Kitchen Ambassador!

What does that mean exactly? Well, it means that Maytag will be providing me with a new set of appliances to put them to the test & share them with you! I’m so completely grateful as my current appliances are in less than stellar quality- plus with all of the time I spend in the kitchen, I overwork those poor old hunks of junk as it is.

When we bought our house, we bought it from an investment company that buys foreclosures and spruces them up. They gave us new carpeting in our great room & new tiles in the kitchen, and even painted all of the rooms {which is good because the office used to be highlighter yellow}. But the previous owners had taken their appliances, and since this was our first house, we didn’t have any. We could afford a new washer & dryer but definitely not all of the kitchen stuff- so since the investment company wanted to sell badly, we had our realtor put into our contract that they needed to provide the kitchen appliances. &I have regretted it eve since.

Fridge 1

Our fridge’s water is disgusting. We’ve had someone come out twice to fix it {spending over $100 just for someone to look at it} with no luck- they said the filter is damaged beyond repair. It still makes ice, which Justin uses… but since it’s the same water filter line, I don’t trust the ice that much. &It’s not just that it may have extra invisible stuff that you’d find in the tap water- this water is downright BLACK. Oh & see that jelly stain? I’ve tried everything short of a chisel to remove that but have had to stare at it for a year now. I’m not even sure how jelly got on the ice maker in the first place, but I get the feeling the answer is Shane.

Fridge 2

Our fridge is also missing the door to the butter part, rendering that shelf above unusable. But it’s a small fridge, so I still use the shelf. I just duck whenever I open the fridge. That’s normal, right?

The bottom of our fridge is what worries me the most. It’s completely broken, and Shane has a tendency to lose things back there & try to get them. I don’t like the idea of him playing under the fridge {plus it seems like it should be a fire hazard} but when we had the guy out to look at our fridge, he said it wasn’t fixable. Something about it being all one piece & there’s no way to reattach a new piece even if I ordered it for over $100.

Stovetop

Then there’s our stovetop. 95% of these are stains that WILL NOT COME OUT. I’ve tried Comet, Soft Scrub, Vinegar, the dishwasher, bleach, everything. Whoever owned these before us put them through a lot & completely ruined them. Gas stove tops are super hard to clean anyway but even when I actually make the effort, they still look dirty since they are stained like that.

Oven

The oven itself works better than the rest of the appliances {even though the stove top has two burners that take FAR too long to ignite & release way too much gas first and then explode when they do light}. The oven usually takes a couple of minutes longer to cook things than it’s supposed to but at least does cook stuff. The main concern I have with the oven is that the door is super broken & only has two positions- all the way open & all the way closed. If you try to leave it anywhere in between, the springs {one of which is missing} shoot the super hot door back up to closed, sometimes hitting your unsuspecting arm in the process.

microwave

My microwave is cracked, stained, and annoying. The turntable inside just kind of sits there, it’s not really attached to anything anymore no matter how hard I try. &It’s just totally yellowed, presumably from whatever yucky stuff they were doing that stained the stove top.

dishwasher

&Finally the dishwasher. A very close second {behind the fridge} for my least favorite appliance. First of all, I’m not entirely sure how I ended up with a black dishwasher when the rest are all white. But that’s the least of the issues- the dishes always come out dripping wet {the drying feature is totally broken}, and often small bowls & cups have been tipped upside-down and are full of gross water. I’ve cleaned the filter area several times but yet every time we use it, it smells like burning plastic. &Then there’s the fact that it’s not even attached to the wall anymore on one side. The big screws are all stripped & no matter how many times Justin tries to fix it, it’s to no avail.

So now do you know why I’m so excited to be replacing them??

Later this month, I will be receiving all new appliances. They will be stainless steel, which is great since our white stuff just looks blah with our white cabinets & because with a 2 year old, it is nearly impossible to keep those things clean. They will all match, and they will all work. &I won’t have to wear a hard hat to open my fridge anymore. That’s all I can really ask for.

I’ll be putting the following to the test the Ice20 French Door Refrigerator with Easy Access Refrigerator, the Jetclean Plus Dishwasher with Fully Intergrated Controls, the Over-the-Range Microwave with Stainless Steel Interior, and the 6.2 cu. Ft. Capacity Electric Range with Triple-Choice and Speed Heat Elements. Get ready for a whole lot more recipes to be posted & of course I’ll be sharing my experiences with the appliances themselves. I can’t wait!
