Interview with Ballerina Jenelle Manzi & “Barbie in the Pink Shoes” DVD & Doll Giveaway!

Just like most little girls, I always wanted to be a dancer. My older sister was a dancer {and a very, very good one- she was even in a music video!} and I always looked up to her, so naturally I wanted to dance. I took dance classes for awhile but they aren’t cheap, so I mostly just danced to Spice Girls songs on my boombox in my room. But for many girls, dancing is an entire lifestyle.

I recently had the chance to submit questions to be answered by Ballerina Jenelle Manzi of the New York City Ballet!

About Jenelle:

Jenelle was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey and began her dance training at the age of four. In 1999, Ms. Manzi began studying at the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of New York City Ballet. While a student, Ms. Manzi originated a featured role in Christopher d’Amboise’s Tribute, as part of the SAB 2005 Annual Workshop. In December 2005, Ms. Manzi became an apprentice with NYCB, and in February 2006, she joined the Company as a member of the corps de ballet.

Frankenweenie Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack Review

If you’ve been reading for awhile, you may remember all of the exciting things that I got to do when Frankenweenie came out. I attended the premiere of the movie in LA and watched it for the first time in the same theater as the stars of the movie, including Winona Ryder, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, and even Director/Creator/Writer/Producer Tim Burton. So I’m probably more excited than most that the movie is finally out on Blu-ray- it’s like my own souvenir from my adventure!

Frankenweenie4DiscCombo (1)

About the Movie:

From Disney and creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes the hilarious and offbeat “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town learn that getting a new ‘leash on life’ can be monstrous.

Complete with electrifying bonus features, “Frankenweenie” is alive with enchanting excitement in eye-popping Blu-ray 3D.

You can read my original review of Frankenweenie, but the DVD release has so much more to discover! I recently received the 4-disc combo pack, which includes a Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD & Digital Copy. This combo pack includes great special features, including:

• All New Original Short: “Captain Sparky vs The Flying Saucers”—An exciting all-new
short featuring Victor and Sparky’s home movie.

• “Miniatures In Motion: Bringing ‘Frankenweenie’ To Life”—Viewers get an in-depth
tour of the London set that includes never-before-seen footage showcasing the
hundreds of artists who worked on the film.

• “Frankenweenie” Touring Exhibit—Allows audiences to explore the artistry of the
film’s puppets, sets and props in a showcase that’s traveling the world.

• “Frankenweenie” Original Live Action Short—Burton’s original live-action short film.

• Music Video—“Pet Sematary” performed by Plain White T’s

Shane has loved Sparky since I came back from my trip with Sparky & Persephone stuffed animals & a storybook that we read nightly for a month. While he loves the character of Sparky, he’s still too young to actually see the whole movie as it’s really geared towards kids that are closer to 6 or 7. That said, I’d be fine letting Shane watch 85% of the movie & just fast-forwarding the rest, but he knows the movie is scary so he’s the one who has decided not to watch it yet. In the meantime, he’s been having fun with the free printables I gave him!

I am planning on watching this movie with Justin for an at-home date night one weekend soon though since I love the movie & would love an excuse to watch it again. We just have to make sure we have plenty of tissues in the house!

Buy It: You can find the 4-disc combo pack {also available in 1 disc-DVD or 2-Disc Blu-ray & DVD only pack} for $29.99-$49.99 at stores nationwide.

&Don’t forget to recycle any old kids DVDs to musicMagpie.com- a great way to get rid of your DVDs if you would like to upgrade to Blu-Ray, whilst also making some cash!

The Most Mischievous Movie Pets {& Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days Giveaway!}

Post provided by Fox

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days Blu-ray cover

Everybody’s favorite wimp, Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), is back for three times the fun in the latest film based on the super-popular book series! When Greg’s dad (Steve Zahn) threatens to send him to military school if he doesn’t stay out of trouble, Greg finds all-new ways to land himself in the doghouse! For starters, Greg’s in over his head when he pretends to work at the swanky country club where Rowley’s family has a membership. Things don’t go much better on a father-son camping trip with the Wilderness Explorers, and then there’s the Heffley’s new dog, Sweetie, who fetches even more trouble for Greg in this hilarious family film!

Most Mischievous Movie Pets

Sweetie is lovable but, at times, completely devious! In addition to Sweetie, here are some more of the most mischievous movie pets including everyone’s favorite lasagna lover, Garfield and canine icon, Marmaduke.

Beethoven

beethoven

Most people don’t know that in real life, Beethoven’s real name is Chris.  He was owned and trained by Karl Lewis Miller who also trained animals for Cujo, K-9, Babe, and many others infamous animal flicks.

Garfield

garfield

From 1982 to 1991, twelve primetime Garfield cartoon specials and one hour-long primetime documentary celebrating the character’s 10th anniversary were aired but the first film about the clever feline created in 1978, did not come out until 2004.

Marley, Marley & Me

marley

Because the film covers 14 years in the life of Marley, 22 different Yellow Labradors played the part alongside Owen Wilson and Jennifer Anniston, who continuously try to maintain their marriage and family despite Marley’s opposing ambitions.

Marmaduke

marmaduke

Owen Wilson lent his voice to the oversized-but-loveable pooch who moves to a new neighborhood with his family, where he proceeds to – accidentally – wreak havoc.

Hooch, Turner and Hooch

hooch

Before he was a two-time Oscar winner and beloved film icon, Tom Hanks was a detective trying to solve crime, while guarding his star witness, a large and slobbery Dogue de Bordeaux named Hooch.

Beast, AKA Hercules, The Sandlot

beast the sandlot

Hercules, known to the neighborhood kids as “the beast,” is an English Mastiff with a penchant for hoarding lost baseballs. After five failed rescue attempts for one very special ball, it turns out all the kids had to do was ask the owner, and suffer the affectionate slobbering of a very big dog.

Sweetie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

When Sweetie the Labradoodle first comes to the Heffley house, Greg wants to give him a legitimate name like ‘Ripjaw’ or ‘Shredder’ but Susan thinks them too violent and opts for something more her taste.

A New Holiday Classic: Prep & Landing Totally Tinsel Collection

The Holidays are full of traditions, and one of our biggest traditions has always been to watch our favorite Christmas movies. We always watch the classics, like Rudolph & Frosty, and of course The Grinch & the new classic, Elf. But this year we discovered a new movie {well, two actually} & we have already decided to make it part of our tradition every year!

prep & landing cover

The Prep & Landing “Total Tinsel Collection” features both Holiday adventures that Lanny and Wayne have had on one convenient disc. I had heard about these specials but had never seen them, and when I watched them a few weeks ago I immediately fell in love! {As did Shane, who has now seen them no less than a dozen times.}

prep and landing high tech

In “Prep & Landing”, it’s Christmas Eve & the high-tech elves are ready to help Santa. But when Lanny and Wayne encounter unexpected challenges, they have to work hard to save the day!

Next, in “Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice”, the elves have to battle a kid who has been put on the naughty list & has stolen their classified technology! With the help of Wayne’s brother, Noel, they all learn a lesson.

The collection also includes two animated shorts, “Operation Secret Santa” and “Tiny’s Big Adventures” as well as North Pole commercials and much more!

prep and landing

My thoughts: While I love all Holiday movies, it takes a lot for me to add a new movie to my “must-watch” list for the Holiday season. This collection absolutely made the list. The characters are all great without being over-the-top and there were plenty of laughs for grown-ups, too {but not inappropriate ones}. Each special is only 23 minutes, which makes it easy to squeeze into your busy holiday schedule & is easy for even younger children to sit through without getting restless from sitting too long.

Buy It: You can find Prep & Landing: Totally Tinsel Collection on 2-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack or DVD for $19.99 at most major retailers. {You can also find it on DVD for $9.99 or Blu-ray Combo Pack for $13.99 on Amazon!}
