Creating #EasterSmiles with Colgate!

This year, since Shane is finally old enough to get excited about the Easter Bunny’s visit, we’re going all-out for Easter. So when I got the chance to set up a BONUS egg hunt? I “hopped” {sorry, couldn’t help myself} on that for sure!

Our “trial” egg hunt included lots of toy dinosaurs & a few other cute items, but the main event items were the Colgate Dora the Explorer toothbrushes & toothpaste! Shane used to love brushing his teeth, but lately it’s become a bit of a battle. I know that incorporating characters he loves helps him get more excited about it, so I thought it was worth a shot!

We headed to Walmart & picked up a set of Dora items for him. As a bonus, the toothbrush was even green- his favorite color!

I also picked up some “fun” items to put in the eggs.

The eggs I got ended up being too small though so I just hid the items behind the eggs. He’s 2 & a half- he didn’t mind.

Shane loved finding the eggs & once he found his toothbrush, he didn’t waste a second before using it!

I’m proud to say that so far, we haven’t had any toothbrush battles since we did our egg hunt. He actually lets me sit him on the counter and help him brush his teeth without any fussing, which has been a huge relief! I think the combination of using Dora to get him excited and also him having to find it in an egg hunt made him really excited to be able to use it. So, if you’re struggling to get your toddler to let you brush their teeth I’d recommend a similar approach!

#BuildingSmiles Together with Colgate!

This weekend I was asked to go check out all of the great Colgate goodies available at my local Walmart. I’ve fallen so set into my oral care routine that I realized I haven’t even checked out the new options available in years, so I was excited to go see what was there! So Hubby & I headed out {Shane was with my Mother-In-Law for the day so that we could run errands & make over the bathroom afterwards} to see what caught our attention!

I use Colgate’s 360 toothbrush already but they had different colors at Walmart than where I usually shop- which I know sounds like a silly thing to care about but I have to notice that color every single day, twice a day to make sure I use the right toothbrush! I want it to be a pretty color! &So I got a pretty color. :)

I also HAD to get Shane some toothpaste, even though it’ll be another month or so before he’s ready to use it. He turns 2 in a few weeks which means he gets to graduate to the “big kid” toothpaste instead of the toddler stuff, so once he masters spitting it out, he can use this Colgate Jr. toothpaste I got him! {Bonus for me: It’s WAY cheaper than toddler toothpaste!}

&Since I’m going back to work next week {egads!} I picked up a pack of Wisps to keep in my purse for after lunch if I need them!

There were tons of other things that I loved but didn’t get, at least not this time- check out the rest of my shopping trip on my thismoment slideshow!

So like I mentioned on the slideshow, Colgate is currently touring parts of the US with their “Building Smiles Together” tour! Here’s a little bit more about what they do:

In an effort to help combat rising cavity rates and build healthy smiles, Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® is working with Walmart to create “Building Smiles Together™” — a new initiative dedicated to providing free dental screenings and oral health education to children in need.

Traveling around the country throughout the year, a fleet of Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® mobile dental vans will be on-site at participating Walmart stores. Staffed by volunteer dental professionals, children (ages 1- 12) will receive free screenings, treatment referrals and key learning tools to help them build a lifetime of healthy habits.

By combining the free screenings and education with Walmart’s everyday low prices and broad assortment of oral care products, this initiative will provide families the much-needed access to the education and everyday oral care necessities they need to live better, healthier lives.

It’s such a great cause- teaching kids about good oral hygiene is such an important thing to do but it’s hard to figure out exactly how to go about it. The tour not only gives the children free screenings but shares learning tools with both the children and the parents, helping to make that important lesson easier to teach.

Make sure you check out BuildingSmilesTogether.com to see if the tour is stopping near you! While you’re there, check out some of the great kids activities to help you teach your kids about why dental hygiene is important!

Will you check out the Colgate Building Smiles Together Tour? How do you teach your children about proper oral hygiene?
