{Not Quite} Wordless Wednesday: Congrats Class of ‘13!

On Monday night, I got to watch my Mom get her Associate’s Degree in Art!

Graduation 2013

{Finding her was like a real-life version of Where’s Waldo where everyone was wearing the red & white striped shirt.}

I’m so proud of her for following her dreams & so glad that she’s doing something that makes her happy.

Graduation Walking to Get Diploma

Technically she got her degree after the winter semester, but after waiting decades to get that diploma, I’m sure waiting one semester to actually walk felt like nothing.

She actually started working on her Bachelor’s at the University that I went to this last semester so I’m excited to watch her walk again in a couple of years!

Congrats to the entire Class of 2013- but especially my Mom!

{Not Quite} Wordless Wednesday: Mother’s Day 2013

I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day! We had a nice, quiet one- exactly what I wanted.

Little kid with BIG muffin

First, the boys went to pick up some breakfast. I couldn’t decide if I wanted bagels or donuts so they went to the grocery store to buy donuts & Einstein’s for bagels {and the giant muffin}.

We hung out at home for most of the day- we watched a movie and the boys gave me my card which included my gift in the form of a note. For my gift, instead of the 1 or 2 days off Justin was planning for our San Diego “family honeymoon” trip next month, he’s taking the whole week off! This is a HUGE deal as he usually hates taking time off. I’m so, so excited.

Then we went to the in-laws to see my mother-in-law for Mother’s Day. {I had seen my own Mom on Saturday when we all went to lunch for an early Mother’s Day.} Afterwards, I wanted to go see the ducks at this little pond nearby our house. I always ask to go, but Justin never wants to- but he couldn’t say no on Mother’s Day!

Family of baby ducks at Desert Shores Las Vegas

When we got there, we found a whole flock of fluffy ducklings!

Mama Duck & her ducklings

Their Mama Duck was very watchful, but since they live in a neighborhood they’re used to people.

Baby ducks taking a bath

They all stopped & starting grooming themselves- Shane thought it was so funny that it was bath time!

Some of them were walking SO cute I had to grab a video.

So that was my Mother’s Day! How was yours?

{Not Quite} Wordless Wednesday: Justin’s Birthday!

On Sunday, my hubby celebrated the big 2-5! Okay, so 25 may not be that big of a deal but it is the first time a birthday has made him feel old. So I decided to pull some childish pranks to try to keep him feeling young.

Every time one of the boys has a birthday, I put streamers up. I even brought them with us last year since we spent Justin’s last birthday in Nebraska! This year, in addition to hanging them in the kitchen, I blocked off the computer room so he’d have to bust through it when he woke up in the morning.

Streamers on door

Thing is, he’s kind of a ninja, and he got through without breaking them. Ninja, I tell you. Shane was happy about it though because then they got to break through it together! Shane is already asking me to do it again for his birthday in August.

I also changed his desktop wallpaper…

&To complete the birthday annoyances, I thought I’d post a picture of him on here since he doesn’t want me to.

Happy Birthday Babe!!

Letters to My Son: Our Changing Family

Dear Shane,

It’s been awhile since I wrote you a letter, and so much has happened since then. Mommy & Daddy finally got married, and you were the most handsome ring bearer we could ever ask for.

Smiling son at wedding

You were so amazing at your job & while we worried for months that you’d get upset, or go the wrong way, or yell for us during the ceremony, you were the perfect guest. You were so smitten with your cousin Kali that you took her hand & escorted her down the aisle perfectly. &The toast that you gave us at the reception was pretty much the cutest thing ever.

Son giving toast at wedding

While it was a magical day for all of us, it did not complete our family. Not only because we were already a family long before March 24th, but also because Mommy & Daddy have finally decided that our family is not complete yet.

We love you with every ounce of our beings, and we would be happy if you were our only child. But we think that we would all be even happier if you weren’t. We see the way you coo over babies, the way that you stroke their silky hair & tickle their toes. We see how you treat Bella Notte like your sister, because you don’t have {a human} one of your own. &When you asked us for a baby a few weeks ago, without even knowing that we’re trying to get you just that, it melted my heart completely.

Shane & Bella Notte

As excited as I am about adding to our family, whenever that should happen, I am also nervous about how our roles will all shift. I will no longer be just your Mom & I will have to split my time. Billions of Mothers have done this before me, but I still worry that I won’t be enough for you anymore. I worry that the shock of going from only child to big brother will be too much or that you will decide you don’t really want the job. &To be honest, I worry that you already have so much of my love, that I’m not sure if there is even enough left for a little brother or sister.

But I know these fears are silly & that the moment we find out that our family is growing, these fears won’t matter anymore. More than anything, I’m so excited for you that you’ll finally have someone to play with & share secrets with & someone who will look up to you always, simply because you’re their big brother. &I know you’ll be the best big brother ever.

Love,

Mommy

{Not Quite} Wordless Wednesday: April Recap

In March, we celebrated Easter, had a Staycation at the Aria, and, oh yeah, got married. So there was no way that April was going to beat that! Not only was April tamer compared to March, but it was a total snooze compared to most months since we spent over half of it sick & completely out of commission. We’ve spent the last four weeks mostly at home- skipping art classes, soccer classes, and play dates due to being sick. But we’re finally on the upswing now & looking forward to a better May!

Drawing with Chalk outside

We spent a lot of time outside this month, since it’s going to be in the 100’s starting next week.

park playdate

We even had some park play dates! Shane loves to hug his friends goodbye & it’s just the cutest thing ever.

Crazy Dog

Even Bella got to spend some time outside!

Daddy & Son- Thomas the Train

We went to take a ride on Thomas the Train- Shane asked to go back every day for weeks.

Eating a muffin

&Before we went, we stopped at a bagel place where Shane ate a muffin like a crazy person.

Kid playing Playstation

Shane had a 6-month dentist checkup, where he got to {try to} play Playstation.

rainbow cupcake

We went to a birthday party where my friend/sorority sister made the most amazing cupcakes & cake for her daughter’s 2nd birthday!

Build a Bear

The next week, to celebrate, we went to Build A Bear with her. Shane made a puppy that he named “Cookie Tootie Feis Shane”. When Daddy asked if his name was Cookie for short, Shane said “No, it’s Cookie Tootie Feis Shane.” Well, okay then.

Piano

My in-laws bought this giant, loud, takes-up-the-whole-floor piano {out of kindness, which we appreciate, but IT’S HUGE} for Shane…

Hiding in Piano Box

…who just uses the case it came in to hide. Why do kids always prefer the box?

Dog with Purse

Bella & Shane have had a few tiffs this month, since Bella likes to steal Shane’s toys & Shane is learning that he doesn’t like that. So he keeps bringing her all of her abandoned toys to keep her away from his.

What was your favorite event in April?
