I love trying new & creative ways to get Shane to eat vegetables. He likes a couple but refuses to try anything that he doesn’t already love {which includes broccoli, carrots & not much else}. Disney’s Family Fun Magazine has this adorable Over the Veggie Rainbow snack that is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!

The Cost of Celebrations

The “major” holidays may be behind us, but celebrations continue all year long. Valentine’s Day was just last week, and while we decided not to do anything due to our wedding being next month, my Facebook stream was full of pictures of flowers, teddy bears & date nights for a solid 48 hours. Next up is Easter, where each kiddo gets an Easter Basket {plus there are eggs to dye & lots of Cadbury Mini Eggs to eat}, then Mother’s & Father’s Day, including a gift for each. Sprinkle in some birthdays & you’ll notice that you may spend more on celebrations than you think!

Baines & Ernst recently made an infographic sharing some fascinating facts about the most popular Spring & Summer holidays- did you know that 30 million people sent cards on Mother’s Day, but only 7 million sent Father’s Day cards? Or that Hallmark makes 1,300 cards just for Valentine’s Day??

You can find other fun facts below:

The Cost of Celebrations can sometimes deter you from celebrating at all, but keep in mind that it’s the thought that counts. Instead of sending your Mother a giant bouquet of flowers, take her on a coffee date at Starbucks. Instead of buying yet another tie for your husband from the kids for Father’s Day, send them out front & have them wash his car, or have them draw him their own cards rather than buying them for $5 each. {Justin throws away every card he receives anyway!} This year, don’t let the cost of celebrations keep you from enjoying your loved ones!

How do you celebrate on a budget?

Hallmark’s Valentine’s Day 2013 Collection Review & Giveaway!

If you’re looking for something for your special someone this Valentine’s Day, look no further than Hallmark! Hallmark is one of my favorite stores because they always have such cute items that fill my heart, and this year’s Valentine’s Day products are no exception!

While Valentine’s Day is thought of as a day for romance, it’s also a day of showing your love & appreciation for others that are special to you. I plan on getting Shane a small token this year, and there are a few others in my life that I will definitely be sending a card to! &Since Hallmark has a huge selection, I can find something for everyone in one place!

Hallmark Blooming Expressions

Shane’s new favorite “toy” {that’s not actually a toy} is the Blooming Expressions flower. It starts out closed up, in a cute vase with a sweet note on it. Then when you press the button on the back, music plays & the flower blooms- revealing another message inside! Then you can just press the button again to close the flower back up.

This flower makes for a sweet gift, but it also makes great Valentine’s Day décor! I wanted to leave it on our entryway shelf for decoration but Shane loves this flower & carries it around with him like it’s a toy!

hallmark cards

Of course, what would Valentine’s Day be without cards? I still have many cards that I received in elementary school, when we would all decorate paper bags & set them on our desks for the exchange. I would always get so excited when my cards had extras on them- candy, charms, whatever- they were my favorite! Hallmark has several cards this year that would have delighted 8-year-old me, and still do!

Special Delivery Card Presenters are cards that have envelopes that come with beautiful embellishments, like this glittery envelope with a metal seal! It makes the already perfect card even more special.

There are plenty of cute Signature Greetings &you can find the perfect one for just about anyone! I love that one with the chalk board & chalk on the front- you can even write chalk messages inside! The Signature Greetings line is made up of cards that are handcrafted with beautiful papers &fun extras.

Hallmark Light Up Cards

&Then there are the Light Reveal Cards, which are super fun & definitely Shane’s favorite. They’re cute even before you light them up, but they get super fun once you push the button!

Whoever you’re shopping for this Valentine’s Day, be sure to check out Hallmark’s great selection! You can find these items in Hallmark stores, in the card department at your local mass retailer, or online at Hallmark.com.

Win It: One lucky reader will win a gift pack, including a Blooming Expressions flower and some great Greetings! Just enter using the form below. Good luck!

5 Travel Safety Tips from LifeLock!

Tonight is New Year’s Eve, which means that many of you will be heading home in the next few days from visiting family & friends over the holidays. But before you do, LifeLock has some great tips to help you stay safe while traveling!

5 travel safety tips

1. Password Protect: Setting a password on your phone can help limit access to personal information in the event that it is stolen while traveling. Be sure to avoid using the passwords 1234, 1111, or 1231 as they were all among the most common passwords of 2012.

2. Keep it Professional: When filling out your luggage tag, supply the address to your office or place of work. This helps to keep your home more secure.

3. Be Watchful: ATM skimmers {devices that can copy your card information} are small enough to be hidden in an ATM at the airport, or even a small kiosk at a theme park. Be sure to regularly monitor your card activity, even when traveling.

4. Keep Kids Safe: Be sure that they have their address & phone number memorized in case you are separated, and remember that children under 4’9” are required to be in a booster seat.

5. Arrive Early: Make sure to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight during peak travel times like right now. The high volume of travelers means long lines & traffic jams- not only is that added stress, but it may mean the difference between making your flight or not.

LifeLock has plenty of other great tips for safe traveling that you can learn by playing the LifeLock for Life Sweepstakes on the LifeLock Facebook page! Every month, you can play the sweepstakes to learn how to make your life a bit safer as well as enter to win great prizes! This month’s prizes include {4} 1-year memberships for two people and a $4,500 travel voucher!

Where have you traveled to this season?
