I am a beach girl. I feel the most at peace when my toes are in the sand and I can hear the waves crashing. Unfortunately, I was born in the midwest- and moved to the desert. Not a whole lot of beach, in case you were wondering.
I grew up taking occasional trips to California to visit family, and since I met Justin we’ve been taking California road trips almost annually. This year, though, I don’t think we’re heading out there- so my toes are starting to twitch as they long for the beach!
Even though I may not be getting my fix this year, I still find little ways to bring the beach to me. I may be surrounded by mountains, but when I do these little things I can close my eyes and imagine I’m at the beach- until I step on a Lego.
1. Watch the beach live, from anywhere. Periscope is a hot new app that is sweeping the social media landscape. You can watch people in real time as they stream from their cell phones all over the world. Through using Periscope, I have “been” to the Great Wall of China, many parts of England and Italy, and of course, to the beach. Being able to watch the waves crashing in real time is the second-best thing to actually being there!
2. Smell the beach- everywhere. Ocean-scented candles and home fragrances abound, but my favorite way to be sure to smell like the beach all the time is by washing my clothes with beachy laundry detergent. The new 4x concentrated laundry detergent from method comes in a beach sage scent that reminds me of our last trip to San Diego. It’s not an overpowering scent but as I walk I’ll sometimes catch a faint whiff of the detergent, and it’ll remind me of the magical moment when Justin proposed on the beach or that time we almost got stung by a stringray on our honeymoon.
3. Decorate with a nautical theme. I have always been into all things nautical- I even have a {giant} tattoo of an anchor on my foot. So it’s probably no surprise that my home contains several beachy decorations! Right now my favorite items are this sign that I got at Target for $1 and the centerpiece I just made for our table using a $5 short vase, a $2 bag of sand and a few special sea shells.
4. Listen to some white noise. I think that waves crashing is one of the most distinct sounds out there. Every white noise machine or CD has waves on it- and for good reason. It’s easy to let your mind wander as you remember favorite memories in the sand. iTunes has several great waves tracks to listen to- if you’re having a rough day, download one and just sit and let your mind wander for a few minutes!
5. Get beach waves. You don’t have to be at the seashore to sport some mermaid locks. Just combine 8 oz. of water with 1 tsp. of sea salt and a dab {seriously, a dab} of hair gel in a spray bottle. Spray your damp hair after a shower and let dry naturally for some seriously summery waves!
I’m all for natural products when they work well, so I’m loving the method 4x concentrated laundry detergent. It’s naturally derived but tough on dirt and stains- and it smells good enough to make me daydream about the beach, so that’s basically worth trying it right there.
I love a lot about this detergent but two stand out things are that the formula is hypoallergenic {amazing for me since I’m typically allergic to scented detergents- but not this one!} and the detergent comes in a whole line of out-of-the-box scents that you don’t typically get from laundry detergents. The fragrances include ginger mango, spring garden, fresh clover, and of course beach sage. They do also have an unscented version but have I mentioned yet how amazing this smells?!
method and ASOS have collaborated to bring us 10 pieces of playful clothing that are easy to care for and clean. You can check out the whole line here but hurry- it’s only available until June 30th!

Love these fun beachy ideas! I am a fan of nautical decor and all things anchors, so that is a definite plus. Now I just need another way to feel sand between my toes.
