The Last Days of Summer #99SummerDays

Well, summer is unofficially over. I know Labor Day isn’t until this coming Monday, but Shane started school the other day {along with our entire school district} &while it’s still over 100 degrees outside, fall is definitely around the corner! We wanted to have one last family cook out with Justin’s family before Shane started school, so last weekend we got together & grilled some hot dogs!

A storm is brewing

Sadly our plans got foiled both by Justin’s dad having to work & the incredibly poor-timed rain: in the morning, it was perfectly sunny, and became cloudy as we grilled. Then, by the time we were done eating, it was pouring! {Several parts of town even flooded!} Shane was bummed because we weren’t able to swim, so we’re actually thinking about going back over for Labor Day to enjoy some more hot dogs & hopefully actually get to swim this time.

In the meantime, we still had fun the other day & the food was so good!

Simple Chili Recipe- Perfect for chili dogs or by itself!

-1 pound ground beef
-1 cup chopped onion
-1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
-2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
-1 clove garlic, minced
-1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
-1 (29 ounce) can diced tomatoes
-1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
-1 (16 ounce) can chili beans, undrained

In a large saucepan over medium high heat, combine the ground beef, onion and bell peppers. Cook until beef is completely done. Drain excess fat.

Add the chili powder, garlic, cumin, tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the beans at about the 35-40 minute mark and heat through.

It’s not summer without hot dogs, and we love Hebrew National! They taste great &they are all-beef, which is great since I don’t eat pork, which can end up in many other brands. I grew up eating them & so will Shane!
