The Top 5 Big Moments for Every Wedding

In just over a week, I will finally be walking down the aisle to marry my high school sweetheart. This day has been a long time coming {we just had our 8 & a half year anniversary last week} so to say that I’ve put some thought into it is definitely an understatement. While I can’t predict how my particular wedding will go- including what great surprises may occur as well as what mishaps we may have- there are five BIG moments for every wedding that I have been playing in my mind for months:

1. Having My Father Escort Me Down the Aisle: I realize that not everyone is lucky enough to have this moment, but I am grateful that my dad will be the one to give me away. I am quite the Daddy’s Girl & already know that the moment I see my Dad waiting for me, I am totally & completely going to lose it and start crying immediately.

2. The Ceremony: It amazes me that you can walk down an aisle single, and walk back up it as someone’s wife. I believe in the deep meaning of ceremonies {something I picked up during my sorority days} and hold certain symbolisms sacred in my heart. I look forward to repeating the words that my parents, and their parents, etc. said to each other on the first night of their married lives together. {As a bonus that isn’t typical to most weddings, I also can’t wait to see our son walk the rings to his Daddy!}

3. The First Dance: I can’t share what song we’ve selected just yet, because it took us months and we finally found the perfect one, so we’re keeping it a secret for right now from our guests {some of which read this blog}. That said, your First Dance is an opportunity to express yourselves, your relationship, and your love for each other in an awkward 2 & a half minute shuffle.

4. The Cake: At our wedding, this actually won’t be a big deal, but I know that typically thousands are spent on the cake so I felt it made the list. In our case, we will be using a cake façade {a pretty, but fake, cake} and will be serving sheet cake. That said, I’m still looking forward to some yummy chocolate cake.

5. The Honeymoon: While I’m very excited for the wedding, I am just as excited to connect with my then-husband after the wedding. Our love is the reason for this whole event, and I am so looking forward to just spending some quality time together celebrating our marriage. Our major honeymoon will be in June, but Justin & I will be taking a mini stay-cation for two nights so that we can calm down from the craziness of the wedding & we can just enjoy being married for a couple of days before real life sets back in.

We hired a videographer, and I love that most of these moments will also be captured on DVD for us to treasure forever. If you have old wedding videos {your own, or maybe even your Grandparents’!} be sure to look into having YesVideo transfer them to DVD. Film & video tape age quickly, but I’m sure if you preserve them, those videos will be treasured by generations to come.

What was your favorite moment from your wedding?

    My wedding was so long ago I can barely remember! haha I think one of the most memorable moments for me was when my mother’s two best friends came back to see me right before the ceremony started. My mother has passed 7 years before my wedding so they came back for a little pep talk. It was really nice to have them there.
