Shane is at that magical age where he loves to play pretend at any given opportunity. Sometimes he makes up elaborate scenarios including flying pirate ships & sword fights, but sometimes he likes to just act out what he sees us doing in real life, like buying things at the market. One of his newest tools to help him do just that is the Farmer’s Market Coloring Sorting Set from Learning Resources.

The Famer’s Market set contains thirty pieces, including 5 bushel baskets and 25 pieces of play food. This is honestly some of the most realistic looking play food I have ever seen- it’s very detailed and very, very sturdy. They are all fruits & vegetables and include common ones like a banana & an apple as well as some less standard ones including peppers, eggplant, and an apricot.

Each basket has a label on it that tells you what color that basket should hold. Shane has a lot of fun sorting the produce into the correct baskets and it’s one of his favorite ways to use the set. Shane knows all of his colors, but when we first got the set he still confused orange & yellow on occasion. Since using this set, he’s really figured out the difference & no longer confuses the two at all!

Just like most products from Learning Resources, the Farmer’s Market set can be used for more than just one thing. The set comes with a list of suggestions, and we’ve tried several of them including:
*Ask children to count aloud as they place each food item in a basket.
*Play a fun guessing game by setting out a few items and give characteristics of one fruit or vegetable, and see if they can guess which one you’re talking about!
*Choose one food & talk about where it grows.
*Set up a farmer’s market and allow your child to “buy” or “sell” the items.
We have tried all of these with the set {and there are so many more ideas included- and you can come up with your own, too!} and Shane loved them all. We literally use this set in some capacity every day, even if it’s just while cleaning up toys at night {he likes to dump them all out so he can sort them again}.

Buy It: You can purchase the Farmer’s Market Color Sorting Set from Learning Resources for the MSRP of $39.99
Win It: One lucky reader is going to win their own set! Just enter using the super simple form below. Good luck!

Note: I received the set to facilitate this review. All experiences are authentic & all opinions are my own.
