Happy Anniversary, Babe!

I can’t believe it’s been 8 years since I first laid eyes on you, playing hackey sack in the quad. I leaned over & asked who the new kid was, and had this ridiculous feeling that the answer was my future husband. I was 15, but I still wasn’t one to believe in love at first sight- until it happened to me.

I bothered our mutual friend to get your number for two weeks before he finally handed it over. The first night I got the guts to call you, we spent over 5 hours talking. We learned a lot about each other and learned even more through the MSN messenger chats we’d have every night for the next few months. When summer came around, those chats would extend until 5am, when my mom would get up for work & I’d finally crawl into bed so she wouldn’t get mad at me for staying up so late. {Sorry Mom!}

After a small hiccup {that whole, you dating one of my best friends for a few weeks first thing} and a summer apart while you went back home to Hawaii & I went back home to the Midwest, we finally had our first kiss on September 6, 2004.

Our relationship has never been traditional, but then again, neither have we. We jumped right in, yet took it slow at the same time. We were constantly talking- I’m pretty sure all of our texts were part of just one big conversation that lasted from that first Christmas when I got my cell phone {JUST to text you, by the way} all the way until we moved in together.

It’s like you said the other night at dinner- we grew up together. For some, growing up means growing apart, but for us, it has meant growing together. We have shaped each other in the best possible way- not becoming who we are for the other person, but by living alongside them.

I can’t thank you enough for all that you have done for me since day one. &Thank you even more for everything that you do for our family. I know you work hard- harder than you should- and to have you still come home and be a wonderful father & partner means the world to me. To us.

You’ve already been there for better or for worse, for richer and poorer, in sickness and in health. We have loved & cherished each other for 8 years now- getting married is really just a formality at this point. Still, I can’t wait to walk down that aisle next Spring so you’ll finally be stuck with me for good.

Love you!
