Have I told you that I invented s’mores? Well, the Girl Scouts did, but I was a Brownie for a year in 1st grade, so I’m pretty sure that means I get to take some credit.

No matter who made them {me}, s’mores are delicious, and an essential part of any summer! In fact, in late spring, I can always tell that summer is on the horizon when I start to see displays at the store of graham crackers, marshmallows & of course, Hershey’s chocolate!
When Hershey’s asked me to host a CAMP BONDFIRE to bond over s’mores with my family, there was no hesitation when I accepted. I did, however, struggle to decide where & when to do it. I knew camping was out of the question- I am not a sleep-outdoors type of person. {&Our massive drought makes campfires a no-go anyway.} I couldn’t hit the beach, because I don’t live near one. So I thought & thought.
Then last weekend I got a cold. It was the kind that knocks you out & drags you down for four days and it takes all of your energy to move from the couch to the other side of the couch. I felt so bad not being able to play with Shane at all, and I knew that when I was better, I wanted to make it up to him. So as soon as I could manage the walk from the couch to the backyard, we had our mini CAMP BONDFIRE!
Shane has had pseudo-s’mores before: the combination of graham crackers, marshmallows & Hershey’s but without roasting the marshmallows. So this was his first real s’mores experience, and he LOVED roasting the marshmallows!

First I assembled some s’mores “kits” so that each of us had the makings of some yummy s’mores!

Bella was wondering where hers was, but she was willing to take one of ours off of our hands if we wanted. She’s always so thoughtful.
First, we watched Daddy roast his so that Shane knew what the goal was.

When Daddy was all done, he helped Shane roast his own! Shane loved blowing out the flames- which was great practice for next week, when he gets to blow out some birthday candles!

We always love when Daddy gets to be included in our activities. ♥

Now that is a thing of beauty.
Finally it was time to go inside {it was 107 outside, after all} and enjoy them!

You could say Shane made a bit of a mess, but he was determined to get to the chocolate asap!
Even though our CAMP BONDFIRE was just the three of us at home, it made a lasting impression on Shane & we still got to have the memory of his first s’mores! &It just goes to show that sometimes, it’s the little moments that mean the most.
You can check out Hershey’s on Facebook to see more HERSHEY’S CAMP BONDFIRE stories &ideas for hosting your own!

Thanks! I’m feeling better but now my son’s got the cold- so looks like we need another round of s’mores!
You’re making great memories there. My hubby and daughter used to roast marshmallows over a candle in the house when they were desperate. hehehe

That’s hilarious! I’ve definitely never tried that.
Yum! 107, I feel your pain – it’s still so hot here in Phoenix, too. (I had to check out where you were to make sure you weren’t here in Phx too – the block wall looks so similar to ours!!)
Back to s’mores – oh man – they are so good…I don’t have them often but when I do, I seriously eat enough for 6 people. My favorite memory is making them on Coronado Island in California on the beach at the Hotel Del. Ahhh….s’mores

Haha I know, I read a couple of blogs of people in Phoenix & I always think they’re in Vegas because of the walls!
I had no clue who invented the S’Mores!
I love your little backyard Bondfire! I’ve been thinking about taking the kids camping and having s’mores – but like you, it’s well over 100* here. Maybe we can do it in December!!

Kids faces are the best after s’mores! And with them roasted (not toasted as my kids like them) they are even better. I actually make mine black, eat that layer and roast again, yeah I’m crazy like that. Hope you’re feeling better:)

I love S’mores. Using the grill to make them is a great idea, we usually only make them on campfires, but we don’t have campfires very often.
