5 Things My House Says About Me

You can always learn a lot about a person by going to their house. So today, I’m sharing my home! Trisha from MomDot created a blog carnival, challenging bloggers to share 5 things that someone would learn about you from walking through your house. So here they are!

{Pardon the photo quality- I just took these all at night with nothing but flash & artificial light. Just pretend they’re super gorgeous shots.}

Bella rocker

1. I refuse to believe Shane’s growing up. I can’t bring myself to move our glider out of Shane’s room, despite the fact that he’ll be 3 next week & I have only sat in it with him less than a handful of times in the last year. {It normally houses a giant teddy bear but Shane threw it on the floor, so Bella’s taking advantage.} On the same note, his changing table is still in the room too- despite him being too big to actually lay on it for almost a year as well. He needs a “big boy room” makeover- but I’m just not ready!

Toy box
2. I’m a total sucker for toys. Shane has toys in almost every room. Of course they’re in his room, and our family room is half playroom- but he also has toys in the office {above}, our bedroom & even the dining room.

bathroom curtains

3. Our neighbors are trashy. Literally- not figuratively. They’re super nice, but they pile {and overflow, and forget to bring to the curb} their trash RIGHT outside our powder room/ laundry room window. I always really want to leave the curtains open in this room since it’s right by the entrance to our house & could let in some light, but I don’t like the view.

front entry decor

4. I love decorating for seasons &occasions. Problem is, I always throw the decorations up right before the season or occasion is over, and then leave them up for far too long. Take this bunny & watering can for example. They’re part of my “Spring Décor” but I didn’t put them up until LATE May- and they’re still up in early August. Our Halloween décor last year went up on the 29th. Oops.

jewelery

5. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry. I love it, but I have the same necklace that I wear every day that I got from Justin so I don’t rotate a lot. Because I have so little jewelry & since I wear it so infrequently, I just kind of stash it in one little {pulled out, overflowing} drawer of my jewelry box. I really need to organize it, but with my track record it’ll be another year before I actually do.

What would I find out about you by walking through YOUR house?

  1. Your dog is adorable! And I know what you mean on keeping baby things around way too long. I think we had my son’s changing pad in his closet up until about a year or two ago. (He’s 7 now!)

Your jewelry box looks like mine. I rarely wear any of the jewelry my mother-in-law sends me, but I keep it all so it’s shoved into every tiny crevice of the jewelry box while I continue to wear my one necklace I love.

lol It’s even worse than it sounds- they just had a baby so now it’s a large pile of diaper genie inserts full of, well, you know what a 3 month old’s stuff looks like. Not a pretty sight.

  4. Nolie says:

We got toys all over our house too. I even believe there may be one or two in my bedroom.

The overflowing jewelry box is why I changed my ways :) Plus then it’s off the dresser and on the wall. I do love the spirit of your decorating – I am very similar. “It’s almost spring..I should really decorate…” but then I get distracted and forget. What a bummer about your neighbors, too :(

  6. Bella is beautiful!!

If you walked into my home, you’d find a TON of toys (probably all over the floor) and not nearly enough space for all the junk I have.

  7. Kenda says:

My jewelry boxes look the same. I love buying it or getting it for a gift – but I still have about 5 pieces that I wear constantly. I just can’t bring myself to get rid of the rest!

lol At least it makes for a nice distraction if you’re trying to clean the room in question. Unless you’re trying to clean the floor, and then you’re stuck. :)

  10. I had to laugh at the seasonal decor, because that has totally been me before! For a year or two I even had a plastic Christmas tree that I decorated for all holidays and just left up all year…LOL! Now I just try not to be too ambitious. I decorate for Halloween and Christmas and that’s usually it. I’m usually pretty good about taking them down no more than a few weeks after the holiday is over. ;)

I love the looks of your dog! I only decorate for Halloween and Christmas and do the outside as well. While still living in town before moving to the Forest I once we went away for Christmas and didn’t decorate and I found out the neighbors were talking about us only decorating for Halloween. Fortunately the raccoons and bears don’t care so we like our neighbors better now. :)

lol Yeah, I’d probably prefer your current neighbors too- at least they eat trash & don’t leave theirs in front of my window like my neighbors! :)

My neighbor goes through, no joke, like 15 gallons of milk a week and when they put them in the recycling bin (15 gallons each week) we always have several gallons of milk blowing all over our street. Drives me crazy.

  17. I’d cover up the view of the neighbors too. That would make me crazy!

As for your toys, at least they’re contained!

  19. I completely understand about not being ready for a big kid makeover. My little one can still use the changing table but we got rid of the bumper just recently and I need to remove the mobile. It’s hard to face that they are growing up. I can totally sympathize with you!
