Justin & I are coming up on our 8th anniversary, which will be September 6th. The “traditional” gifts for the 8th anniversary are bronze or pottery, and the “modern” gifts are linens or lace. While I can think of something with lace that Justin may want me to get, none of the choices sound like very appealing gifts for me to receive. But then again, they’d be better than the gifts I usually get for our anniversaries!

One year, I received a beautiful diamond necklace in the shape of a heart. It had two rows of black diamonds & one of white diamonds, and it was beautiful. It was so exactly my taste, and I actually wear it daily and keep it on day & night. So what’s the problem?
Well, of all of the seven anniversaries we’ve shared, that’s the only one where I received a gift at all! The first few years, I would spend a long time choosing something to give to him on our anniversary, only to get nothing in return. Finally, I gave up.
I promise, I don’t actually care about him buying me things. But what I do care about is the thought that goes into it- it really is “the thought that counts”. He could print me out a picture of something he chose for me & not even really buy it- I just want to know that on our anniversary, he’s thinking of me and wanting to express and celebrate our love for each other.
This is where I need to note that he’s actually quite a fantastic gift giver- he knows exactly what I want &does love to give it to me and make me happy. In the last year alone, I’ve gotten a Clarisonic {my birthday}, KitchenAid Stand Mixer {Christmas}, iPhone {just because/belated Valentine’s Day}, and DSLR camera {Mother’s Day}. All are amazing gifts that are far too generous. But yet, every year, September 6th goes by like any other day.
I’d gladly give up a Valentine’s Day gift {or really ANY of them} to use it for our anniversary. It’s such a special day that signifies another year of our partnership, and I don’t feel that we’ve done a great job reflecting just how important it is.
So, this year, I’m calling him on it. I don’t care if my gift is from the dollar store- we WILL be exchanging gifts this year!
Luckily, I’m not the only one who is less than pleased with their anniversary gift {or lack thereof}. When I saw this trailer for the new movie, Hope Springs, I was laughing so hard! 5 Days Left

The worst anniversary present I received? A card!
We were broke that year, so we really couldn’t afford anything else. lol! It was so sad!

Yeah, I got a card the year that Shane was born & it was actually very sweet. But that’s the only year I got one of those, either. lol Hope everything else you’ve gotten was awesome!!
Well I love to give and I love to get but I do more of the giving than getting. We have been married almost 15 years and I think I have actually gotten a gift maybe 5 of those 15. Usually we just go out for dinner or something. However, I do usually get a card and it is all I really want because that does mean he was thinking of me.. and he remembered what day it was
Totally agree on the card- that’s what I want, something that shows he is thinking of us & acknowledges the milestone.
I have yet to receive any anniversary gifts, my husband doesn’t plan anything ever so birthdays, mother’s day and anniversaries are all no gift
that is a gorgeous necklace!!
Want me to smack him?
that would be appropriate lol!
the best would have to be our trip to Paris!
Totally jealous!
When we were dating he did great – diamond necklace, flowers to work, etc. Unfortunately since we have been married we always have big ticket items we are saving up for so it hasn’t been anything huge. But I always at least get a card which tells me he remembered

Cards totally count in my book- although diamonds & flowers are pretty darn nice.
I’m a pretty lucky woman when it comes to presents from my hubby…it’s a good thing, I think I would shrivel and die if he regularly forgot like that, LOL. It is pretty important to me, and I guess he figured that out.

I totally just read your post on it & Bearded Man & Justin are like the same person- on any holiday BUT our anniversary! lol
I’m thrilled if he can even remember our Anniversary! We usually plan to spend time together instead. However, I will share that for X-Mas one year, my DH got me vaccuum sealed storage bags! That was a weird one! lol
I’m visiting from the MMM Hop and I’m following you via Twitter, FB, Pinterest and G+.
Hope you get the chance to visit us too! Cheers, Renee

That’s hilarious- what inspired THAT gift? Maybe he was up too late watching infomercials.
Thanks for stopping by!
Totally, I also have a Slap Chop (which lasted about 1 year) and let’s face it…who doesn’t want a Sham-Wow (whatever that is!) lol

Well I was going to suggest telling him that you’d really like to exchange gifts on your anniversary, but looks like you’ve already got that planned! My hubby is the same with the *big* gift purchases. My last three gifts for various occasions have been a laptop, pistol, and DSLR!

Yeah… he woke up this morning & the first thing he did was read this post so I think the mission was accomplished. lol! &WOW what a combination of gifts lol!
I am in the same boat as you… my hubby has never gotten me an anniversary gift though and we just celebrated 5 YEARS. Ugh. And he has no excuse because he hasn’t rocked any other occasions either – he really just doesn’t get the whole gift giving thing and so I gave up on it too. I guess now for us just being together is enough…. though I would love a thoughtful gift one year.

Yeah, together is awesome but mama needs some bling.
Seriously, tell him to get you something this year- or maybe a “push present”?? We didn’t do one of those but your man OWES you.
Worst gift…hmmm, not sure. We’ve been married 17 years, so I can’t remember what I got all those years. I do know that this year we didn’t do anything and we just done cards. I wish we could have at least gone out.
I’m divorced. End of that story. LOL You deserve something really big this year!!!
