Recipe: Dirt Pie!

One of my favorite things about Summer is the long list of great movies to see. There’s The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Bourne Legacy. &Then there’s the movies I care about- Brave, Madagascar 3, Ice Age: Continental Drift & The Odd Life of Timothy Green. I want to see all of them, but that’s going to be expensive. Luckily, there’s a way to get some free movie tickets right now just by buying dairy products that you’d buy anyway!

2 Free Movies Tickets at Safeway

June is National Dairy Month, and right now at Safeway & Safeway affiliate stores, they’ve got a great #JuneDairyMovies promotion- when you use your free savings card, you’ll earn two free movie tickets for every $40 you spend on participating dairy items! &It doesn’t have to be in one shopping trip, either- you can accumulate the $40 over the course of the month, and you can do it as many times as you want over the month! Your receipt will even tell you at the bottom how close you are to your next reward, so you can easily keep track & take advantage of the promotion!

June Dairy Promotion at Safeway

As you can see, I stocked up on dairy products this last weekend & with their great prices, I got a LOT for $40- plus my free movie tickets! It was such a great deal & now I still have 3 more weeks to earn more tickets! But in the meantime, we had some dairy to go through, so I made one of our family favorites that I haven’t had in a long time- Dirt Pie!

How To Make Dirt Pie

Dirt Pie is a super easy, yummy and fun treat that the kids can even help you make! It’s a dessert, so I wouldn’t call it “healthy”, but I’ve included tips next to it for how we “healthify“ ours!

Ingredients:
1 {small} box Jello Instant Pudding Mix- Vanilla Flavored {we used Sugar Free}
1 tub of Cream Cheese {we used 1/3 less fat}
1 tub of Cool Whip {we used Light}
1 package of Oreos
1 bag of Gummy Worms

Dirt Pie Ingredient Pudding
Step 1: Make pudding according to directions in a large bowl. {Or do like I did & use a hand dandy BlenderBottle to mix it & then pour it into the bowl.} Allow to set.

Dirt Pie Ingredients Cool Whip and Cream Cheese
Step 2: Mix in the tubs of cream cheese & cool whip.

Mixing Dirt Pie
Step 3: Set aside 6 Oreos with the filling scraped out. Crush up the rest of the package {you can do this easily by placing them into a large Ziploc baggie & letting your kids go to town smashing them}. Add to mixture & stir well.

Dirt Pie Ingredient Gummy Worms
Step 4: Put 1-2 gummy worms in each glass {use clear if possible so you can see the worms & dirt!}, fill with dirt pie mixture, top with another worm or two. Take the 6 Oreos you set aside & break them into chunks to add to the top as more “dirt”.

It’s that simple, and Shane loves digging for worms in his “cup of dirt”!

So make sure you head to your local Safeway or affiliate store to pick up some dairy products & earn your free movie tickets! You can learn more about the promotion by visiting the June Dairy movies website, and you can find some great recipes at the Easy Home Meals site or Facebook page!

What recipe will you make with your dairy products?
