Fighting Hunger Together with Walmart

This post brought to you by The Walmart Foundation. All opinions are 100% mine.

The Holidays are over, and so are the big family meals, traditional dishes & eggnog. But because those are gone- so are many food bank donations. During the Holiday season, a lot of food is donated, but in the Springtime, the amount decreases, and with that, hunger increases.

The main cause of hunger is unemployment, and of course, unemployment rates have been astronomical lately. In fact, more than 50 million Americans currently don’t know where their next meal will come from.

That’s why the Walmart Foundation has a campaign going called Fighting Hunger Together. The Walmart Foundation is working with Feeding America & four of the biggest food brands {ConAgra, Kellogg’s, Kraft & General Mills} to raise awareness about the hunger problem and to provide 43 million meals to families in need.

From April 9-30, you can vote on Walmart’s Facebook page for the community that you’d most like to help from a list of 200 of the country’s communities with the highest unemployment rates. Walmart will then donate a total of $2 million to the winners- $1 million to the community with the most votes & $50,000 to each of the 20 runners-up. The winning community will be announced on May 1, 2012.

I will be voting for Las Vegas-Paradise, NV because I live here & also because we’re #15 on the list- which is pretty bad for such a big city that should have lots of opportunities for jobs. I have seen first-hand the effects of our economy & unemployment here in Vegas &will be voting for sure!

Another way to help is by going to Walmart & buying select products from the participating brands {ConAgra, General Mills, Kellogg’s & Kraft}- check out in-store signage & packaging for details on how you can make a difference with each purchase by donating meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit fighting childhood hunger.

No matter how you choose to get involved, Walmart has made it easy to do so, so make sure to Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart from April 9-30 or check out select products in stores.

Who will you be voting for?
