A So Good, So Sweet Memory

Sometimes, it’s the little moments in life that make the best memories.

A couple of months ago, Justin & I decided on a whim to take Shane to the zoo. We had gone once before & while we only have a very small zoo here, Shane had loved it & had asked about going back for weeks. So finally, we decided to surprise him & take him again.

We drove to the zoo, which took about 10 minutes, but somehow over that time the temperature dropped, a LOT. It had been warm when we left our house, so Shane wasn’t wearing a sweater, and I didn’t think to bring one since I keep one in my car. Only problem? We had taken Justin’s car, which does NOT have a sweater in it.

At this point, though, Shane had already seen the flamingos & turtles welcoming us from the front entry, so we knew we wouldn’t be able to leave without disappointing him. So instead, I let Shane wear my sweater {even though it looked like a dress on him} and we continued on, despite Justin & I both being really cold.

We had a great time & loved visiting all of the animals, but the mountain lion was what made this trip unforgettable. For over five minutes, it played with Shane. It first played peek-a-boo by walking in & out of sight, and then chased him back & forth over & over from inside of the cage. I got a lot of it on video, and despite the poor quality of the video {and the fact that you can’t see Shane for the first half of it}, I still play it when I’m having a bad day or just want to hear my family laughing together.

It was the zoo trip that almost didn’t happen, but one unexpected moment turned it into what is sure to be a lifelong memory.
