I don’t know about you, but I’ve never really been sure why we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, or why people pinch me every year when I forget to wear a green shirt. So I did a little research & compiled a wee bit {I couldn’t help myself} of information for you on today’s holiday. Enjoy!
-St. Patrick lived from AD 387-461 & died on March 17th.
-Over the last several hundred years the holiday has become more of a celebration of general Irish-ness.
-“St. Patrick’s Feast Day” was celebrated in Europe as early as the 9th century, &St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated in North America since the late 18th century.
-St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand.
-The original color of St. Patrick’s Day was blue. This didn’t change until the 19th century. However, green ribbons & shamrocks were worn as early as the 17th century.
-There are believed to be about 10,000 three-leaf clovers for every one four-leaf clover.
-St. Patrick’s Day became an official public holiday in Ireland in 1903.
-Research predicts that Americans will spend about $4.5 billion this St. Patrick’s Day- on drinks alone.
-Pinching people who are not wearing green came from the Irish legend that wearing green made you invisible to leprechauns, who would supposedly pinch you if they could see you.
-The first St. Patrick’s Day parade wasn’t in Ireland, but rather in Boston in 1737.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I was told the reason that we celebrate St. patty’s day is because that was the day that the snakes were drivin out of Ireland and the irish people celebrate because they finally had their land back. came from our Irish Aunts no kiddin
