Easter Hangover

No, I don’t have an actual hangover- I don’t even drink. However, having candy for breakfast {& at lunch… & dinner… &at night…} not only makes for a great Easter but it makes for a lazy blogger. I’m going to post my pictures of Easter tomorrow, but for now he’s a story about Friday night! :)

On Friday night, Hubby & I dyed some Easter eggs. We put Shane in his highchair next to us with a small piece of candy, some stickers & his makeshift sticker book.

I actually got Hubby to participate!

&Of course, I made some! Loving the Tiffany’s blue.

As soon as Shane saw what awesome things we were making, he wanted in! {Note that he is now wearing both the piece of candy AND the stickers.}

But… the eggs were all done!

So instead, we all ate ice cream.

The end!

Happy Easter!

I’m probably going to be MIA this weekend because I’m working Saturday morning & then it’s Easter time! Saturday night we’ve got to leave the Easter Bunny some notes so he’s prepared & then on Sunday, we’re doing an egg hunt at home & then one at my in-laws along with lunch. So before I go, Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate & have a good weekend even if you don’t!

Also, Shane made all of you a special egg! I let him decorate his own {plastic} Easter eggs with stickers from the Toy Story egg decorating kit he made me buy because it had Buzz on the front. {I literally- LITERALLY- could not pry it from his hands for the cashier to ring up because he was afraid I’d put it back, so we had to swivel the entire cart to an angle that she could scan it at. Thus, we had an extra egg decorating kit.}

I let him pick out his own stickers…

&He put them on all by himself.

“BzzBzzBzz”- what Shane calls Buzz Lightyear.

Here’s your egg! Enjoy!

We also fingerpainted some eggs.. that was messy but super fun! Wanna hug?

What are your plans for Easter? Do you have any traditions that you partake in? I’d love to hear about ‘em since we’re still in the process of forming our own! Happy Easter!

B Kind 2 Earth Day: What Will YOU Do?

Happy Earth Day!

For the last 41 years, April 22 has been celebrated as Earth Day in America. Since that first year, millions of Americans from all walks of life have celebrated the Earth that we share by raising awareness for its needs and trying to meet some of them. Earth Day Network, an organization that grew from that first Earth Day in 1970, now works in over 192 countries to make Earth Day the largest civic observance in the World.*

Every year, the need for this awareness & action has grown & grown. Deforestation, species in danger of extinction, climate change, oil spills, etc. have contributed to the current condition of our Earth- and it’s time for us to help.

B Kind 2 Earth Day is a collaborative effort between Nickelodeon, The National Wildlife Federation, TheMotherhood.com & bloggers across the country to “encourage people to promise to do at least one earth-friendly action on April 22, 2011 — and beyond.” It is a movement that is taking all fifty states by storm by asking people to pledge to do something for the earth on Earth Day 2011- that’s TODAY!

So what does this mean for you? It means it’s time to pick {at least} one thing that you can do today to help our planet or the animals that inhabit it. It can be big or small, but do SOMETHING!

Some ideas:

-Make or buy a bird feeder & fill it up for your backyard birds
-Plant a tree, or even just a flower
-Pledge to switch to reusable shopping bags
-OR, take your plastic shopping bags back to the store for recycling
-Take your kids to the park & clean up any litter that you find while there
-Turn off the water when brushing your teeth, &don’t turn the water on in the shower until you’re actually ready to get in
-Purchase a house plant for your home
-Make one small change in the products you use: switch the lightbulbs in one room to CFLs, switch laundry detergent or softener to a “green” version, or your window cleaner to a natural solution- or even better, do all of those!

See how easy it is to make one step toward bettering our Earth? It may seen insubstantial, but consider this: at the time of this writing, over 2600 people have “liked” the B Kind 2 Earth Day on Facebook, and each “like” translates into a pledge to do something- anything!- today that will make our Earth a better place. 2600! So head over to the B Kind 2 Earth Day Facebook page & like it to pledge your support- together, we can really make an impact!

Have an idea or want to share how you’re being kind to our Earth? Leave it in the comments & I’ll add it to the post!

Review & Giveaway: Sniffle Buddies!

Ah, Spring. Flowers are in full bloom, the sun’s hot rays are offset by a gentle breeze, &kids everywhere are… sneezing.

At least, my kid is.

Shane, unfortunately, got my allergies- the kind that make your eyes start watering on St. Patrick’s Day & don’t let up until Labor Day. The kind that make it impossible for you to meet your playgroup at the park because realistically, that one-hour of playtime translates into three days of nose blowing.

While the Sniffle Buddies can’t cure allergy symptoms, they sure make them a lot easier to deal with!

Sniffle Buddies are a cute & soft new way to keep your little one’s snot from winding up on their shirt, pants, chin, hair, socks, etc…. if you have a toddler, you know it’s entirely possible for these things to happen. While nose blowing is still optimal, many toddlers & preschool aged children aren’t exactly perfect at this task- and even those who are can have nasal drip, especially with allergies.

This is where Sniffle Buddies come in!  They are little wristbands that you can get in all kinds of colors that are made from bamboo and organic cotton materials. {Making them antibacterial AND super soft!} They are ideal for playtime when your little one is least likely to stop & ask for a tissue- just let them play & wipe on their Sniffle Buddies {saving their sleeves!} &then when playtime is over, grab it by the velcro part, turn it inside out, and transport it to the washer. When you get to the washing machine, just turn it back right-side-out & pop it in!

Tips for Using Your Sniffle Buddies {from SniffleBuddies.com}:

(1) Use Sniffle Buddies during playtime.

(2) NEVER blow your nose into Sniffle Buddies, sniffles only please!

(3) Use Sniffle Buddies in conjunction with proper tissue use and hand washing.

(4) Change Sniffle Buddies often, but remember not to handle it by the soiled surface.

(5) Detach soiled Sniffle Buddies from toddler’s wrists after playtime, handling by the velcro closures only.

(6) For used bands, invert the direction of the loop and reseal velcro closures - housing the used surface on the inside.

(7) Transport used Sniffle Buddies to the wash with the loop inverted. Flip right-side out before washing.

(8) Wash Sniffle Buddies in warm water and dry on medium heat.

(9) Stock up on Sniffle Buddies so you’ll always have a clean one to offer for playtime.

(10) Remind children, and adults, that germs are NOT for sharing so please “Don’t touch my Sniffle Buddies“!

Sniffle Buddies is one of those companies that is just doing everything right in my opinion. In addition to being made from organic ingredients, they help to prevent countless tissues from ending up in the trash, and Sniffle Buddies are completely washable & are washing-machine safe even, making them very reusable. AND, Sniffle Buddies gives 10% of their proceeds to a new charity every month. Current & previous organizations helped include The Easter Seals Disability Services {April}, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation {March}, The Autism Research Institute {February}, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital {January}. Told you, they totally rock.

Wanna know why ELSE they rock?

One of you is going to win your very own Sniffle Buddies in your choice of color! Yay!

Susie’s Note:
I received my own Sniffle Buddies to try out in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own!

Ribbit.

What do all of these animals have in common?

Shane knows them.

For a few {turtle, zebra, fox, giraffe, shark} he says the name of the animal.

For some {squirrel, crab, penguin, bunny} he acts out what they do.

For a few {bee, mouse, sea lion, monkey}, he acts them out and makes the sound. {We even get a bonus tickle at the end of bee!}

For one {platypus}, he does a completely imaginary action that my mother-in-law made up to mess with us. {He waves his arms like a lunatic. Thanks, Noli.}

But for most of them {sheep, elephant, lion, horse, bear, chicken, cow, dog, bear, bird, leopard, jaguar, duck, fish, panda, pig, goat, snake, tiger, cat, owl, blue from blue’s clues} he makes their sound. He knows the animals by sight AND by name: I can show him a picture of a lion & he’ll growl, or I can ask him what a lion says & he will.

But there’s one animal that’s my enemy.

That’s right. I am enemies with a frog.

Shane knows a frog by name. He knows it by sight. &He THINKS he knows what sound it makes.

But no matter how many times I say “Ribbit” {&I say it A LOT.}, when Shane sees a frog, he OINKS.

Say WHA?!

This is not a new occurance. We’ve been trying to gently correct this habit for months now- frogs are one of the first animals he recognized. It’s now to the point where if he starts oinking, we tend to look for a frog first, since they’re a more common animal than pigs around our house as far as his toys go.

I’m sure by the time it matters, he’ll know what a frog says. But for now, it cracks me up that he knows how to walk like a penguin, talk like a fake animal {Blue}, and even make a nonsensical action for a platypus… but still thinks that a frog says “Oink”.

But really, I’m so proud of him. Pig-frogs & all.
