Giveaway: $25 Movies on Demand Gift Card!

As you may know, Hubby & I live in Las Vegas. We are minutes away from “The Strip”- the most famous, exciting, and downright weird place in the World. We are a short drive from dozens of world-renowned shows like Cirque Du Soleil & Jersey Boys. Almost any given night we have a choice between seeing Celine Dion, Cher, or Donnie & Marie. We could watch magic performed by Nathan or Lance Burton, Criss Angel, Penn&Teller, The Mentalist or Rick Thomas.

We haven’t done a single one of those things.

Why? We’d rather spend the night with a good movie, an ice-cream sandwich and a ridiculously overpriced bottle of water. When we have “date nights”, it’s just about always at the theater.

But whether it’s due to the ticket prices {one ticket costs more than I make in an hour}, lack of a babysitter {there’s no WAY we’re taking Shane to a theater for at least two more years}, or just desire to sit on the couch all night, we rent movies using Movies On Demand at least as often as we go out to see them.

For about $5 we can watch a movie &drink free water. We can snuggle under a blanket on the couch- with or without Shane- and bond over a kidnapping, murder, unexpected pregnancy or romance-gone-wrong-gone-right-again. What’s not to like?

Speaking of like, they have a nifty promotion going on right now if you “like” them on Facebook:

It’s every movie lover’s favorite part of the year – Awards Season!  To celebrate, Movies On Demand on Cable has just launched a brand new app on our Facebook page called “How Many Have You Seen?” which lets film fans keep track of all the nominated flicks they’ve seen – and which ones they need to see. You could even win a 3D HDTV for the family just for picking out all the nominees you’ve seen!

To check out the “How Many Have You Seen?” app and to see all the nominated titles available to rent from Movies On Demand on Cable, just visit and “Like” our Facebook page!

Movies On Demand has many of the nominated films available for selection right now- &with the awards coming up, now’s a great time to watch the movies you haven’t seen yet! I’ve only seen three of the movies from the poll- The Town, Inception & Easy A. I want to check out Despicable Me, The Social Network, and Love & Other Drugs for sure- what about you?

Well, whatever movie you “have to” see- Movies On Demand wants to help make that possible! One lucky {Not Quite} Susie Homemaker reader is going to win a $25 Movies On Demand gift card! Yay!

Note: This is a re-post of this review that I posted on 1/11/11; the winner did not confirm & so it’s up for grabs again as part of the Second Chance at Romance giveaway!

Vemayca Cosmetic Bags are pretty much the answer to my prayers: I loooove my makeup, but always either a) lose my cosmetic bag somewhere in the mess that is my house or b) spill something wicked in said bag, causing me to either dump the contents & replace them or buy a new bag completely & just kind of avoid using the makeup that got spilled on.

In either case, not exactly money smart.

The Vemayca Bags have a Soft Pearl Liner in them that you can remove if- or in my case, when- you spill your cosmetics. You can wash the liner or you can throw it away & get a new one from their site. ($7.50 for 1 or $15 for 3) The liner is super easy to replace because it snaps in with the same snaps used on onesies! &I haven’t misplaced my bag since getting it- it’s bright red color helps me spot it in my purse, which doubles as my diaper bag and holds so much it’d put Mary Poppins’ bag to shame! It also comes in black, but I like the red one because I can spot it quickly & easily.

It also has two zippered pouches- one on either side- which I use to hold hair elastics & jewelry that I’ve taken off while out & about so that they don’t get lost in my purse or with the other contents of my bag. &The bag stands up on it’s own, which means I don’t spill eyeliner & other rolling items all over my bathroom or car.

Some more features, as listed by their website:

  • Soft pearl liner
  • Two large zippered side pockets for additional organizing
  • Silver satin lining, making the contents highly visible
  • Custom metal zipper pulls that are easy to grip
  • Flat bottom so the cosmetic bag stays upright
  • Cosmetic bag is machine washable
  • Size: measures approximately 9 inches wide, 6 inches high and 2 inches deep

&Now, one lucky {Not Quite} Susie Homemaker reader gets to win one! Yay!

Toddler Talk Thursday: Outdoor Activities

So, I hate the outdoors.

It sounds like such a lame thing to say but honestly? I do. I live in Las Vegas where if it’s not 117 degrees, there’s a good chance it’s only 40. We have very few in-between days. Add to that my incessant asthma & allergies and my ridiculously pale skin {which tans rather than burns, but who can afford to switch foundation shades every week or so?} & well, I like to stay inside.

That said, when it’s 117 degrees out, there’s nothing quite like a good swim! As a kid I used to hit the pool as early as March, and you couldn’t get me out until November. Now that growing up has given me feeling in my fingers & toes, I can’t quite do that- but I’m practically itching to hit the pool in a month or so!

Luckily, Shane likes the pool too. Last summer he wasn’t quite a year old yet but he was already letting me take him in the pool with me- he liked to kick & splash and he LOVED the floatie we had- it had a spot for me to stand and an exersaucer-like attachment for him to sit in. It was brilliant! We may use it again this year but I get the feeling he’s going to want to be a little more independent. Time to get one of these!

Crazy About My Baybah

Wordless Wednesday: Swing Life Away

We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage.
If love is a labor I’ll slave till the end,
I won’t cross these streets until you hold my hand…
